Looking For A High Yielding Short Sativa Dominant Strain?

Discussion in 'Growing Organic Marijuana' started by Atmo, Jul 25, 2014.

  1. Hey guys,

I wasn't sure where to put this. I've only got one grow under my belt which was a Northern Lights. Super easy to grow, good yielder, I'm happy with it, but now I'm keeping my eyes out for another strain to add to my arsenal. Time to step it up!

I really really love Sativa highs, so I would love to find a good strain that meets the following:

-Short! This is pretty vital and trumps the other requirements
    -High yielding would be nice
-Lends itself to training easy (scrog)
    -Clones well
-Easy to grow, although I will take on a harder strain if I can scrog it
-Good bag appeal, just for my own personal ooh's and aah's :)

Anything like that out there? I was just looking at HSO Blue Dream and I would love love love to grow that (sounds perfect to me.. starts off with a great sativa high and lands you back down to a nice pain-killing indica high), but I believe it's a tall strain. Maybe less of an issue under scrog than it would be in sog? Would that be hard to scrog? Especially in a small space, if the nodes are far apart..

Basically, I have like 4' flowering height using an LED (so really 3' high including the pot is my max height I can go, so figure 2.5' plant height)

But really, I don't know much about specific strains at all, there are so many out there I just don't know what to get! I do know that I love a good Sativa, though!

    Any suggestions?
    Thanks so much guys.

    Stay positive!

Yeah I figured so, I was hoping that maybe there was some plant with good indica growing genetics with the sativa high - is that just a pipe dream?

Also YES blue dream I was looking at, one of my top choices as well - I will probably get a few seeds.

Also, I see ome people are against feminized seeds - why is that? I would much prefer feminized but if regular seeds are BETTER in some way, I will gladly get a 10 pack and grow a few, sex em and grab the heartiest female.

Thanks Jimmy Carter (never thought I'd say that in my lifetime haha)

Is there a specific brand of blue dream I should look at? I thought I saw a couple from different places, but they should all essentially be the same strain, yeah?

I thought that was a tall strain as well, though?

  4. try C99, it finishes quickly. AK48 is 65% Indica but has a great sativa high. If you LST, they will get very bushy and thick.

  5. Some believe that female seeds are not as potent and don't offer the variety of phenos that regular seeds do. Also, I have heard some complain that they have had more hermies with fem seeds. I have grown both with no problems, you just have to be able to spot the males early if you get regular seeds.

  6. Awesome, thanks @[member="Chris Stevenson"] - definitely will check those out as well!

  7. Because you want short and sativa have you thought about an auto? I know that doesn't fit in with your other wants. I know Flash seeds has some autos that are supposedly 75% sativa. Plus you can get regular seeds if you don't want female seeds. One of the few breeders I can find that offer regular auto seeds.

Just a thought. I'm in the process now so I don't know how they will turn out but they are going good so far.

  8. No direct experience myself, but from more than a few growers, Satori from Mandala comes closest to what you want and even then, the two indoors was with a scrog set up. The others were outdoors.

But, besides the delicious high, Sarori was easy to clone and easy to work into a scrog.

Myself, I won't even pop a Sativa seed indoors, unless to transplant outside. Trying to get a normally 10' tall plant to pretend it's a normally 3' tall plant just gets too frustrating. For me, anyway.

But, if I was ever tempted again, Satori would be the choice for Sativa dominant. Mandala would be the breeder choice no matter the strain.

Yeah that's what I figured would be the issue with indoor sativa, that's why I was hoping there was a predominantly sativa strain that just basically had the growth genes of an indica - but I'm starting to see that is never really the case. Good info, though, thanks! I will certainly check Satori and Mandala breeds in general out!

  10. I must apologise. I do not know the answer. I enjoy tall sativas that yeild truckloads of bud. And I'm an outdoor grower too. Thank you for allowing me to get my post count up. Again, I apologise.

  11. AFA auto or feminized seeds, I consider them in WAKTOO's word, 'gimmicky'.

Why go to the trouble of building a hand crafted soil mix to put gimmicky seeds in it? If you were using Miracle Grow potting mix, that would go right along with fems and especially autos.

  12. I'm new to this though I have had a vegetable garden around since before I could walk. So my opinion should be taken with a grain of salt. Autos might not be for everyone, but I don't feel they are a gimmick anymore. They are now producing good yields of potent medicine. IMO they have their place. Some people can't have a 10 foot tall outdoor plant that produces pounds or want more than one harvest per year. Indoors people seem to like them because they can have one light cycle and can have a fairly constant harvest if they pop new seeds every couple weeks.

I'm sure you know about autos but maybe check some of the recent threads about them. Some people are doing some impressive things with them. If I could legally grow what I wanted I probably wouldn't pay much attention either. In time I may pass them by as well. But I was too late this year to start a photo but I should still have plenty for myself thanks to autos and they will do it fairly discreetly outside among the other plants.

  13.
Reference, please.  I don't want to be misquoted...

Is this in regard to my "too much light" thread?

    Someone else, perhaps?

  14. No reference to anything other than an appreciation of the word. It describes well how I feel about those seeds and I was just crediting you for introducing me to it.  :smoke:  :ey:

I like 'fluffery' also, but that really doesn't apply to anything at the moment.

  15. Can you tell me how nature works?, Well based on genetics sativa's tend to be more high yielding because they get very large. Indica are more compact and also have good yields. Still depends on the strain.
