  1. hey guys i bought a bag of soil awhile back and i opened it to see the quality if the soil ( big mistake) and ever since then theres been shitons of gnats in it i moved the soil to a airtight bag ( the type of bag that a comforter for your bed comes in when you buy it) and im just wondering if the gnats and larvae will die cause of no oxogen or whatever? im gonna start my grow in a couple days so i need to kill off all these gnats and their bitch ass larvae or imma be fucked! i already know how to get rid of them by putting the soil in the oven at 180 degrees for 30 minutes but i wanna know for sure i kill them off will that idea work? also will they die in the bag that their in? im paranoid about it kinda so plz help guys!

  3. Throw that bag in the trash and get a new one. No sense risking introducing pests into your grow before you've even started.

  4. I don't recommend the air tight bag. Mainly bc not only is the larvae not getting oxygen, neither is the soil. Which can cause mold. If money is tight (i know how it is) I'd suggest spreading it out the best you can and letting it dry out completely. Possibly give it a good flush (which you will lose nutrients as well but that's fixable)

  7. yea you can cook it but the soil will be sterile which would only matter if you're doing organics or organic based nutes...would take a second for the microbes to come back...also get some bt (mosquito dunks) or gnatrol off amazon or wherever and yellow sticky traps cause gnats like to come back

  8. i've had this problem before. cheap way of doing it... (since i don't know the size of your area i'll use 4ft. wide x 4ft. deep as an example.)

take 4 plastic cups and fill two of them 90% full of water. then take the other two cups and fill them 90% full of apple cider vinegar. gnats love it. but feel free to use more than 4 cups... i use a ton.

place the cups around your problem spots and just leave them be for three days. after one night you should see plenty of dead gnats in your cups.

side note - some people like to add a splash of dish soap to the cups so the gnats "stick". but i've never noticed a huge difference.
