Perpetual Indoor Dwc Leds

I think they probably mean that a plant can grow to that close gradually. IMO, you definitely cannot start a plant that close, and fuck anyone who doesn't like it. Maybe you can with the newer white light panels, but not with the 10 band ones I have. I start mine as far away as I can get and let them grow into it. I don't mind a bit of extra internode spacing if it happens.

Reminds me of a while back when I was thinking about going LED and I asked a question about heat generation, and some goofball youngster chimes in and replies that there's absolutely no heat from LED panels, which is impossible unless you're generating light chemically. Also made me think he didn't actually OWN an LED panel, but was just being a troll. Never a good idea to radically change something with a plant.

Was doing my bi-daily watering, and remembered to bring along the loupe to do a trichome scan. I was very surprised and excited to notice that the Pure Africa has about 50% milky trichomes. My only concern is that I haven't looked sooner, so I'm in the dark as to how fast this is progressing. I did note the roots have darkened a bit on that plant, but I'm convinced it's due to maturity and nute stain.

So I'm calling start flowering dates as follows:

    Hybrid – August 1, 2014
    Aurora Indica & Pure Africa – August 10, 2014

Per the seed company's website, Pure Africa runs 75-80 days. So I'd expect to harvest by the end of October, or at least any time after the 30th. I was surprised to see how far along the Africa was. The buds are still on the small side, but they're getting the bulking stuff and the girl is beautiful. Here are sample pics of one of her undergrowth buds, which is tightly stacked and very solid. I'm going to hang it for a few days then toss it in a jar. It's a good 2” of hard bud. Curious what 35 day old bud is like after curing.

And a couple of micro shots:

The Aurora Indica I got from Nirvana has a flower time indoors of 7-9 weeks, or about 50-65 days. It's an Afghan and Northern Lights F1, and I'd expect to harvest somewhere between October 1st – 15th. Looking at some other grows, I'd should see some color in the buds soon.

The hybrid is a cross of Freedom 35 and Nirvana Blackberry. Really have no idea of a time frame, but the Blackberry is a Black Domino / Raspberry Cough hybrid and supposedly runs 9 – 11 weeks. As the 35 was supposed to be a 35 day finisher (Rubbish), I'm going to figure on the longer timeframe. So I'd look for a harvest any time after mid October. There are a plethora of buds on that girl. They're not super frosty yet, but neither parent is a white strain, and still time to go.

In fact, none of the girls are super frosty yet, but there's still plenty of time. Really looking just to keep the girls healthy and happy, with no deficiencies.  Obviously I could and should have done more of the early LST. I'd probably have a much more massive harvest. But I'm seeing bulking.

It seems to me that I was spot on for nutes in the veg cycle. I dunno if the light nutes I was using (300-400ppm) were a little too light for the early flower stage. I have no baseline reference for comparison. It's up there around 900-950ppm now, and I'm not seeing any burn, so so far so good. Ph is hanging well aroung 6.1.

So happy I bothered to look up the strain specs for my girls! Flush dates are right around the corner. Shouldn't be too difficult, just swap out the bucket for basically standing water, but I'll ph it first this time, and stay with a bit of that ArmourSi and SOS. I tried plain old water last time, but this time, I'll bring it to spec first. I can start flushing the Aurora anytime after the 28th, so she and the hybrid are finished feeding except for carboload and a little cal-mag. The AI has the second best bud density/hardness. The Africa are very hard, and the hybrid's buds feel all soft and crappy quality. I've been trying hard to avoid handling the buds at all and was stunned by how lame the hybrid is. There are a LOT of buds, but we'll have to see how she eventually shakes out. I bet I'll end up wishing I had chucked her and started something else, but I might as well let her finish up. Hell, might end up with some crippling fluff. Regardless, I'll get setup to pop some cheese beans after this weekend. Oh boy! Cannot wait for some weed that tastes like weed.

Watered today. I tied up that hybrid because it was crowding the Aurora Indica, and I wanted to give her space to finish. Since it looks like the Africa might go the same time as the Aurora, the hybrid will end up with the big tent to herself for a while. The AI is looking beautiful! I went around and plucked a few leaves shadowing some lower buds. I'd swap the AI under the HPS, but the hybrid is too tall to go under the LED. I just found the AI sample nug I clipped. If it's as good as the PA, I'm in heaven, since I have plenty of AI beans!  :yay:

That Pure African scrap bud was a nice nug - very solid! In fact, very few scrap buds on that girl. I highly recommend this strain for sure! So I hung that one up and forgot about it until I was fooling today with watering and whatnot. It got nice and dry on the sugar leaves I left on, and the nugs still feel solid. So I trimmed off those dry sugar leaves, and crushed them up and tossed them in the bong.

No exaggeration, this is one of the best highs I've had in a long while! Nice mix of head high and body buzz! And this was from the sugar leaves! Uncured! I jarred the rest of that bud, but I doubt it will survive long enough to cure. Hell, this effect is so good, I'm tempted to let her go for a few more days then flush her for 3 days and give her the chop. I'm talking serious cottonmouth and everything. I'm very impressed with that Pure Africa strain! Now I wish I hadn't bought so many other Indicas. Fuck. I'm perplexed. The specs say 75 days, and I'm nowhere near and it's already amazing. Even if I assume the same flower start date as the hybrid, that bud was still only at Day 46. Dunno whether to flush & chop or let her run. I really like what I'm getting from that sample.

    For @[member="Dingus"]!

So I was trying to snag a couple of fluff nugs from the botton of the hybrid. I was down in there and thought I had the little branch I wanted, but ended up snagging a bit more than I intended. So I hung 'em up to do their thing so I can get a test hit or two next week. Here's a couple of pics. This hybrid is from one of the F35 strains and the Blackberry.

    F35-BB CU crop 1.jpg F35-BB CU crop 2.jpg

The Africa is tripping me out. I can't believe the hit I got off of those sugar leaves I bonged. The nugs... I thought they might soften up first, since they're growing "Rock hard," but nope. They stayed extremely hard, yet aren't difficult to break apart. Good quality already (I think), but I'm going to hit a bit of that bud and see what it does, since I'm not buzzed at all atm. I doubt that in the 5 days it hung if it lost more than 25% weight. Wish I had weighed the fucker first. It's not a super thirsty plant, and since it's budding so slowly, I guess all those characteristics contribute to that bud density and quality. Amazing plant! I'll buy more of this strain next year sometime. ATM, I have too many other beans I need to pop, but need more sativa in the perpetual rotation.

    Later...

So yeah, that's a pretty cerebal buzz from that Africa. I cannot get my head around that being somewhere between day 42 and 52 it's so effin good. The tops are getting conical, and the bud quality is totally outside my frame of growing reference. They're seriously hanging 5 days and are feeling and looking like finished quality. With a bottom bud no less. Going to be mind-fucking when they cure out.

I need to go back through the pics and see exactly when it flipped. I really don't count the early pre-flowers, but maybe I should add those days into the equation. I really like the head buzz from this plant, and I don't want it running long and losing that. I bet after this girl cures out, I'll be buying more African Sativa beans.

Went in to the Africa and trimmed out the shadowing leaves. Here's a crappy pic: 20140921_204248.jpg

I was a pleased to see how mych nuggage was hiding among the leaves. The internodes are very tight, and there's a couple of very nice colas on that girl. I was tempted for about 30 seconds to try and clone her, but that's way too time consuming, and less hassle to just order a few. Besides, I want cheese next.

  9. I took out all the shadowing leaves and a few tired looking fan leaves to open it up. I decided to let it run at least the minimum time the breeder stated. I figured out that I can use 8/6 for a start date, so I'm at day 46 today. There's only a bit over 40 watts a square foot in there, so I'm keeping a close eye on her, hoping for some color. I'll pull a few shading leaves from the Aurora tomorrow. Gonna hold off for a few days before I pop another bean. Whenever the AI gets flushed, I'll pick something out.

I went in this morning and did some serious exfoliation of the girls in the big tent. The Aurora Indica (On the right hand side) has been opened up for light since it's probably the closest to getting flushed, with the Africa right behind it. The buds are nice and frosty on the AI. The hybrid is a hot mess, but bulking up. I'm hoping as the weight piles on and the buds firm up to something resembling decent hardness.

Off to the store for a food processor. Decided to see what I could do with a freezer full of trim. The latest batch of leaves have serious frost on some of them.

Just a buncha pics after the trimming.

Note I've been cranking up the lights to the full 62.5 watts sq.ft in the big tent about 8-10 hours a day. It means opening the flap to make sure it stays under 84 degrees, but I don't care. Now that there's fewer leaves, I'm hoping for a payoff in size, taste, potency and just general frostiness. Kinda needed the full wattage when I tied up that hybrid and crowded up the buds. I need to stake that sucker too since she's so tall. I'm going to hit the AI and PA girls later today with Flora Micro, and that will probably be the last nute feeding. I dont want them running out of nitrogen too soon. The small tent gets 42.25 watts sq.ft.

I have a dual project going on this evening. First, I'm taking all my fresh trim and trying a marijuana butter recipe. I'm using this one:

mostly because it looked like the least PITA to do, and wouldn't take a week, but only a few hours. A friend of mine used it on some early trim I gave him and was perfectly happy with the results.

When I was out scoring an otherwise useless to me food processor today, I grabbed cake, cookie and brownie mixes to help experiment with. Might do scratch cookies first. I did pick up a hand mixer as well, since creaming butter and sugar by hand is far, far too much work, IMO. So that should be ready after it's separation time in the fridge overnight. So no baking until tomorrow most likely.

Second project I have is recooking the eJuice I've been trying to get to a decent strength. So far it's been just okay, and I used a LOT of weed. It's not as strong as I'd like it. So I figured there just wasn't high enough heat for the catalitic action to occur. So I'm going to put what I still have in the cooking jar right in a very small saucepan and hit it with some serious heat for a while and see if I can't get any improvement.

    Random thoughts

It's a mixed blessing being a mostly noob at the whole weed growing thing. Now, in my thrid stab at it, and my first try with proper gear and big DWC. It was such a pleasure to see that I'm capable of producing some decent stuff in coco and those little hydro tubs! The learning and experimenting is the best part. The leap to DWC did catch me wrong-footed, but looking at my current 3 girls, it's okay. They're decent, potent plants. I doubt I'll get very eye-opening weights, but meh, I always figured I'd have to nail technique and quality before quantity.

Unfortunately, being a noob means you're still playing around with making concentrates and stuff. You can follow all the recipes you want, but there's no substitute for experience. Like this Space Cake I'm baking at this very moment... I used a boxed pound cake mix. It called for 4 oz's of butter. I used 4 oz's of the canna butter I made last night, but I have a nagging suspicion that I maybe should have used like 2oz's of the canna butter and 2 oz's of something else, like butter or crisco. Going to be an interesting evening.

The little experiment in eJuice I was doing last night seems to have greatly improved the quality of the eJuice I'm making. Three good hits and you're GTG. Still tinkering with that.

The girls all got hit with my full spread of nutes for probably the last time this morning, except maybe for the hybrid. Roots still look fantastic on all girls. Now my next goals with subsequest plants are timing and a good LST technique which minimizes the plant footprint while maximizing cola production. I have something in mind I'll try out on my next start. May do a couple plants, since the ones I plan to pop aren't feminized. I want to try it out on cheaper beans. Would very much like 6 plants in rotation.

So the cake is nearly finished, and I'm out of weed-related stuff to do until later.

  13. 9-24-2014

After being prodded by @[member="Dingus"], I took another look at the timing for the strains I'm growing. It's a bitch! Every seed bank put up stuff like 9-11 weeks and so forth. Breaking the code is something else entirely. It could mean that the short referenced time is outdoors, and the longer interval indoors. Or, it could mean that in the case of a hybrid, the short period could reference more heavily Indica phenos, and the longer time for sativa dominant.

So. The hybrid started 8/1. I'm going to call it sativa dominant based on structure compared to other Blackberry strains. Consensus is that it's a 9-11 week (63 – 77 days). Assuming my 8-1 start is correct, I'm in Day 55 for this plant. It's in the flush as of today, and I figure to give her about 10 -14 days and harvest.

I very much liked the buzz I caught off some chopped up dried leaves I used to wake & bake. Very head oriented and trippy, and I don't want to lose that, thus the flush.

The Aurora Indica is close too. This is a shorter period of 7 – 9 weeks (49 – 63 days). Assuming an 8 /6 start date, today is Day 49, right at the short period, so it too is in the flush phase. Looking to pull her any time after a week, same as the hybrid, and get the Africa under the dual lights for at least a couple of weeks.

The Africa calls for 75-80 days versus the usual weeks. Basically 10-11 weeks. I'm giving her the same start date as the AI, so I'd want to start a flush for her about 11/5, and harvest around 11/20. Excellent!  :yay:

So I selected a couple of Kaliman Seeds Cheese #1 to pop. They're set up and I'm excited about the next few weeks!

Day 4 of the flush! No color changes so far. In fact, no visible changes whatsoever as yet. No problem tho'.

I pulled a short stem with a couple of buds in place. I looked them over in great detail. Mostly clear trichomes, with maybe 25% cloudy, and a very, very few amber trichs. So I'm thinking it's in exactly the right timeframe for some trippy herb! The Aurora - who knows. It's getting frostier and frostier daily, and I don't care what color her trichs are getting, she's coming down on her recommended schedule, so chopped within the next 10 days or less.

Both girls already taste clean judging by the leaf test. The Africa is bulking up super dense buds. Looking forward to getting her in the big tent for at least her last few days and the flush.

As I noted on 9-24, I started two Kaliman Cheese #1 beans that evening. Now, after a few days, they are both up and out of the GorDan cubes. :yay:

In fact, I'm even seeing true leaf starts on both of them. Since they only showed their heads early this morning, I expect they'll look much better tomorrow. Under 96w T-5 until I get a tent vacancy. LST planned when I crop after the third or fourth node.

Another month shot in the ass! October is going to be an exciting month, reasons not least of which my little harvest that's only days away! Maybe sooner!

I was up early and ran out for coffee and breakfast crap. When I walked back in, I thought I stumbled into a big ol' bag of Kush. My tents don't come online until 9am, and I don't run the exhaust fan/filter overnight, so I kind of expect a little of it, but man, not like that. They've really responded to the extra 25 watts sq.ft I've been piling on. Maybe with the next plants in there I'll run the full wattage for the entire flowering stage. Awesome dankness, especially in that hybrid.

This is going to be some decent, trippier weed this time!  :yay:

Tell ya what. That OSSC Pure Africa is one easy plant to grow! Took to the little LST I did just fine, and it's just perking along with no fuss whatsoever! I did a trichome check, and I'm seeing some good milkiness in maybe 30% or so. Hard to say, as I'm not very good at that.

I tried to get some pics that demonstrate the amount of frostiness that she's put on lately. Trouble is, there's SO much reflection off the trichs it throws the meter off on the phone camera. I'll try with my other camera some time before I move her to the big tent. I so want to chop something! The hybrid is getting bulkier by the hour, seems like, with a ton of fresh pistils to go with the red ones. She's very likely coming down this weekend at the latest. Depends on how the trichome inspection of the Aurora Indica goes.

October!! Much outdoor harvesting going on this month, I bet! :hello:

So here's what the seed bank had to say about my next plant, assuming at least one is a female:

"Cheese #1 is Kaliman Seeds's flagship baby and is the first and only cheese strain that totally does what it says on the tin, namely, that it is indistinguishable from the 1989 Exodus clone mother in both taste and effect. 100% original unhybridised Exodus clone genetics in a stable, healthy, male/female population and with up to 50% more yield than the original clone. This is the result of a spontaneous sexual reversal of an Exodus cheese clone that when used to pollinate a sister clone produced progeny genetically identical to the mother plant."

Other strain reviews make it sound dank as fuck! Can't wait!

Been looking deeper into my hybrid's genetics. After a lot of head scratching, I've concluded that its bud structure seems primarily Freedom 35 & a bit of that raspberry cough thrown in. The Blackberry calls for 63-77 days, same as Raspberry Cough and the Freedom 35 is 35 - 45 days. The hybrid is in day 60 and has been on the flush for nearly a week. The frost structure isn't epic or anything, but respectable.

I was tempted to grab a few branches every 2-3 days to see if there's any appreciable difference, but I'm just not that fucking organized to keep it all straight, and not enough of a gourmet to note very subtle differences. No purple color changes in any of the leaves or buds. No color changes in the bottom leaves, either. I had expected couple of yellow ones by now, Was the nutrition she got just that on track the plant isn't going to run out of anything before I harvest?

The Aurora Indica calls for 7 - 9 weeks (49 - 63 days). Today is day 55 for her. So both plants may get harvested within a day or two of each other. Both are certainly clear by now after nearly a week of flush. The AI may even go tonight if I'm not busy.

Trying to decide which bean to pop next. I figure I need to have some ready to pop a few days before I move a new plant to the veg tent. Sooooo exciting!

    :bongin:
