I think they are great because when you light the bowl it is easy to look at as oppose to normal pipes, weird bongs, and homemade creations. Plus they look cool, I do not own one since I don't like dry pieces.

I like a bigger sized sherlock over a spoon anyday. Gives the smoke a lot more time to cool down, small pipes are way too harsh lol
They are not the best kind of pipe. That is a matter of opinion. I like sherlocks, because you can see what is burning in the bowl, and it makes you look sophisticated while smoking.
Well what would you call what happens when your pipe reses up? isnt that the pipe catching some of that smoke?
yeah its catching it, but its not filtering anything out. whatever builds up on the pipe is the same shit thats gonna be going into your system. minus the chunks of course, most of what dirties up a pipe is burnt plant material that gets sucked through.

Im baked leave me alone lol. I saw jimmy carter, then pictured a corncob, through association. That lead to the typical wooden sherlock. The stem curvature adds to total length, cooling smoke, not filtering

I kind of like sherlocks better than spoons because the smoke does cool more. Also as mentioned by everyone, the shape is more enjoyable to look at than a spoon.
Id love to get one but you cant really put it down. Gotta hold it the whole time which is annoying to me.
