I am growing a strain that I am expecting 9 to 11 weeks needed for flowering
    http://www.303seeds.com/seed.php?i=31&thumb=bud
and I am starting of week 7.
I would welcome suggestions for timing of the harvest prep. In particular, how do I know when I am 2 weeks out because it could be now (if the flower time is 9 weeks) or in 2 weeks if in hindsight the final days was 11 weeks of flower. I do not see any red hairs yet, (all are white) and trichomes are clear. The buds are very sticky and smell fantastic! They are very dense. I'll get a current picture up as soon as I can (they are asleep ATM)
I have been giving them some black strap with waterings.

I would welcome suggestions on special things to look out for that would trigger the time that I start starving them of food, exactly when to stop watering also. I suspect I have a couple more weeks of grow as I have been.
With no experience on seeing how fast the hairs go from white to red, its hard to know how to time the "knowing you are 2 weeks out"

Basically any tips, tricks, or existing posts that would verbosely summarize the final weeks of flowering would be great, so I don't make a stupid beginner mistake after the last 2 some months of work

  2. It really is just guess work when starting to flush, but more than likely most of the pistils will have died back by then, some will still be white though

Google harvesting cannabis, get yourself a jewejers loupe or a type of microscope atleast 40x magnification. you can buy em under 10 bucks onl;ine.  when you google it you will see plenty of links for how to tell the best time to get the most thc, I believe you have roughly a 5 day window.

when you look at it under a magnifier you will see the trichromes and the heads of them will be white, cloudy, or amber  depending on the type of high you like Energetic, or couchlock will help you determine the best time, every strain is different so do your homework you will be glad you did. Actually just reread your post and saw you know that so not sure exactly what u r looking for. i flush 2 wks b4 harvest sometimes even twice if i can.

yes, I have read about all of that, and that is fine for choosing when to chop it. You read so much stuff, it's hard to know what is theoretical, vs. what is almost mandatory.
What you are talking about is how to gauge to within a few days, when you judge at that point in time, not 2 weeks earlier. If I understand the goal of trying to deplete the plant's primary and secondary leaves of stored nitrogen and other elements, we flush the soil of all nutrients 2 weeks before harvest.
I assume the 1rst poster hit the nail on the head, that it is a judgment call, a bit of art, and a bit of luck to forecast 2 weeks out when the final day is.

What I gathered from above post is the first sign will be the hairs turning red (again, I am talking about trying to time when you are 2 weeks out). And I am assuming that this doesn't happen over night such that you would go from all white to all red inside of a few days. It is just a little confusing to know the gameplan when you read stuff like keeping the plants in total darkness for the final 4 days. And then try to time the depletion of nutrients, and the withholding of water in concert with the actual harvest (which would be timed as rob above discussed), then you read about ice water shocking the plant during that 4 days in darkness (which just undid your attempting to harvest the plant thirsty).

It would be my luck, waiting for 3 months to finally get something to smoke and then it all turn to a pile of mold. Out of curiosity, and let's say with a strain that has an 11 week flower grow. At what week (would you guess) that you could take a premature small sample (quick dry)? I know this would be harsh and not represent the plant's potential due to the sample being premature, not properly dried and cured. When would you guess from experience, that one could do a small effective sample?

  5. Some people flush two weeks out, some flush one week out and some don't flush at all.  The bud still turns out jus' fine :metal:   The point being, there's no perfect time to flush, or a foolproof way of forecasting harvest time (weeks in advance).  But there's no need to stress. Just relax and as suggested, get a scope to check and when the trichs are getting mostly cloudly, then flush......

    Good luck

  6. It's a good question and unfortunately a hard one to answer. Signs that there are just two weeks left just aren't the same for all plants. Some will have all the pistils died back, and some will only have a few. But if you flushed for one week or 3 it won't make any huge differences. Even not flushing at all isn't going to ruin your bud, flushing doesn't make those sorts of differences. It's very subtle and only makes a big difference if you are overdosing the plants to begin with.

Putting some photos up on here and asking people how long is left is probably your best method. But it's all a bit of a guess really because all plants are different. You don't have to be that exact so you shouldn't worry too much about it
