Can One believe And Not Exist?

Discussion in 'Philosophy' started by Boats And Hoes, Jul 22, 2014.

  1. This is a thread and question that's provoked because of some unclever thinkers on GC..

    So, what do you think?

  2. a flawed question since it already is built with the presupposition of existence

  3.
So, you're saying, yes? One can believe and not be alive?

  4. but i believe you are alive thus you must be it's all based on perception both are true and untrue at the same time

  5. I need to post that meme of Jackie Chan saying "what the fuck did i just read?"

  7. depends on what you mean by "exist." ;)

  8.
    Are you sure about that?

  9. lol... is anyone sure about anything?

I suppose it's possible to be "sure," without actually being correct... i'm pretty sure i've encountered that scenario a few times.

  10. rofl, how did you even come up with that interpretation?

Being alive and "existence" are synonymous.

  12. existence is not a predicate.

  13.
    actual existence is..

  14. no its not.

Indeed, it is.. to assert that something, which I represent in my mind, actually exists is to predicate the reality of said thing as being unreliant on my immediate cognition for reality (or on my faculty of representation, as Kant would say).

  16. nope

Okay, so explain.. why isn't existence, as a matter of fact, a predicate?

Let me guess, you won't, because you're talking of your ass;but, I hope that you will... I'm all ears.

  18. why don't you explain how you came up with that incomprehensible interpretation?

  19.
    Yes, just as I thought.

  20. that you're a charlatan?Yes I agree.
