Ok so I've been stoned and I've been thinking (very bad combination) and I've realized that I get annoyed when people call weed "pot". I just feel as if that word carries a heavily negative connotation. Weed and bud sound endearing, marijuana sounds proper, cannabis sounds knowledgable. grass sounds very classic, and dope is just something that 0 people say anymore. But pot is something that just gets on my nerves for some reason. Does anyone else feel this way? If so, why? Lol I'm high right now so idk if this sounds stupid or not. Yes. But then i get a little annoyed at myself for being annoyed at something so trivial. Annoyception. I also dislike the term "marijuana." Unless it's said in a positive and endearing way, with a thick hispanic inflection. I get physically disgusted when i hear that word pronounced by prohibitionists. Almost enraged. "Pot" carries the same insulting connotation, IMO.
When someone refers to cannabis as "dope" it really pisses me off because IMO dope is an unmentionable.
I know people get annoyed when it's called dope since something else is called dope, but I don't care what people call it. It all gets smoked or burned or vaped or baked.
My grandma calls it dope. And that gets me every time too, because as you said, dope is something completely different and immensely worse. I call it weed or bud when I'm with people and actively handling it (ie: "I gotta go pick up some bud" or "hey, how much weed you got)") , but when I'm explaining or talking about it, I usually opt for cannabis. "Marijuana" also turns me off a bit, but tbh that word is kinda the default word for what we call the plant. Pretty much everyone knows marijuana as marijuana, so it all depends on the way the word is said and used. But pot never carries any positive connotations IMO. Actually the term weed has a heavy negative connotation and is a derogatory term. This is why I use the term "herbs" and never call my sacred plant a weed. Pot is simply an oldschool slang.
Lol most of the people I know that call it pot don't smoke.... However, I get more annoyed when people say something about "doing pot" or "using pot."
