Female Barbers, Whatcha Think?

Discussion in 'Fashion & Lifestyle Trends' started by Thedollylala, Jul 20, 2014.

  1. I've been a cosmetologist for 7 years doing hair, hair color, and men's hair. Soon I'll be taking on a job where I'll be a mobile hair stylist for grooms and their grooms men, and I'll be going back to school to get my barbering license so I can do hot towel massages and close shaves. Would you men be worried about a female shaving your face with a straight blade? Or would you be impressed and more likely to stick with her of course as long as you got an amazing shave and haircut. I'm wanting some insight into what I'll be running into in the future. I already have a large bit of male clientele so it'll be exciting I can offer something new to them.

I go to a beauty salon to get my haircut because the barbershops around me suck ass and the woman who cuts my hair does a fucking awesome job compared to barbers. You'll probably do better than the barbers and once you get up and running i don't think you'll have a problem.

  3. Ehh all the girls I've ever had do my hair the work was less than satisfactory tbh but if you're good then let the work speak for itself

  4. Ah forgot to respond back, I have guys come to me. Hopefully it's for the great hair, but we always have great conversations. Usually about video games, movies, tv shows... even women. I keep it real and tell them about the truth and how to handle situations with their ladies. So maybe that's it on top of my great cuts ;)

  5. I keep my hair short and straight shave myself. But I do occasionally (couple times a year) treat myself to a shave at the barbers. If a female could do as good a job as me or ol' joe I would go back for sure.

  6. To be completely honest, I like the idea of going to the barber shop to kick it with the fellas. I'd imagine people would get used to you being there, but do you want people to have to get used to you?
I wouldn't want to work at a salon for the same reason.

Sometimes a little gender segregation is a nice thing.

  7. My barbers are cool as hell and we always have cool conversations; but I'd rather have a girl touching my head and face. Not being perverted, just prefer a woman touching me.

  8. I am not big into the barbershop culture so the whole female barber thing doesn't bother me.  It's nice to talk to a pretty lady other than my wife every once in a while and I can't lie nothing wrong with the occasional titties brush up on the back of my neck or head, I'm just sayin. :smoking:

And nope I wouldn't be afraid to be straight blade shaven by a woman..... not unless it was her first time.

  9. That brings up another topic. Is your husband (future husband?) going to be happy with you working around men who are hoping to have the  "occasional titties brush up" on them? Will he be cool with you having close face to face contact with men? Honestly, I think it's a road to flirtation, jealousy and divorce. Or it could work out totally awesome for you. I don't know. I'm just traditional, and I think you should stick to a salon and work on women's hair and faces.
Men and women are naturally sexually attracted to each other and it won't take long before you have a "regular client" and that's not good for marriage. Personally I wouldn't be involved with a woman who serviced men in any way that involved physical contact or being in close quarters for extended periods and I wouldn't really want to be with a woman who didn't expect the same of me. And of course, that's not a jealousy issue, it's just a matter of being conscientious of human nature.

Yeah, I do men's hair, before I met him. Only person he was uncomfortable with me doing their hair was my ex husband, understandably. He also knows my more frequent clients are men and come 2-3 weeks vs my women who are 4-6 weeks.

  11. No doubt. Well either way be the best at what you do! :metal:

  12. I've never been to a barber but I'm sure it would be cool.

  13. As long as they do a good job I don't really care who cuts my hair

  14. @[member="Thedollylala"] honestly at my local barbershop there are two brothers who i go to for a no nonsense straight shave and haircut at a damn good price. two of the women that work there i have given ample opportunity but they disappoint me every time. However, if there were special occasions (homecoming, prom in high school but most recently a wedding) where I wanted a little style I have gone to a salon where I definitely feel more comfortable in a woman's hands and this particular one does an incredible job but at 3x the price of the barber

  15. In which part did they dissapointed? Was it the shave or the haircut? This is a survey type question btw. :p

  16. I was cut slightly with a shave and the haircuts were underwhelming but im willing to accept i didnt get enough direction

  17. I go to a barbershop and I never had a barber who could scissor and style my hair. My current barber is getting pretty good at cutting just not styling. So if a female barber who could do a nice fade/blowout and gve me a nice cut and style on top if definitely go to her. As long as she could do the beard and mustache right.
