New Grow

  1. Hey guys, just wanted to introduce myself as a somewhat new grower. I've had 2 other grows, my first wasn't very successful, and when I was growing 2 plants 12/12 from seed, for my second grow, my plants got stolen while I was away. Regardless, this is my newest endeavor. Got 4 CFL's going and 10 bag seeds sprouted and going good. My 10th seed popped through the soil today. The pictures are a few days old, so most of the bigger ones are working on either their 2nd or 3rd node. Also, I'm using straight Fox Farms potting soil. I guess I'm just looking for a little advice and helpful criticism. I also plan on keeping everyone updated as they grow along. I have the space, but I'd like to keep them somewhat small, and start 12/12 on them in about 2 weeks. Here are some pics. Lol please go easy on me.

  2. Am I crazy for trying to take care of 10 plants?

  3. I'm also a new grower but lurk around here enough and you'll soon have years of knowledge. I'd get more alot more light if I were you. And those kids are stretching for the light, move it as close as possible without touching. Ventilation? Is it always open like that? Temps? Is that tin foil? If yes,bad idea creates heat spots. Wattage of the bulbs? By the looks of it you might be able to flower 2 max with that amount of light.

  4.
Hell no! 10 is a good number.

get lots more light and you will be doing good.

Even some 4 foot t5's would help.

  5. I'm broke as a joke right now, and thanks slow for the info about the tin foil. In the next few weeks I plan to get at least 8 more of those bulbs because I know the light won't cut it for long.

  6. I've got Em up now right under the light and they're loving it. As of right now I've got them on 20hrs on, 4hrs off, with no nutes or anything, and they seem to be doing well. I have a deeper closet I plan to move them into tomorrow, too. The bulbs are 23w each. I meant watts in my original post, not kelvin. Also, any advice on moving them? Should I take any precautions to avoid stressing them, or since it's just from one room to the next, is it not a big deal? Also, my ultimate plan is to pretty much veg most until they reach they're 4th or 5th node, FIM all that are large enough to do so, and just let the rest be, and then maybe 3-4 days later, after I see new growth from the FIMed plants, I'll put them into 12/12 and start them on flowering nutes (good/bad idea?).

I'll post more pics before I go to bed of how close they are and the growth difference.

  7. Oh one more question for anyone to answer, I saw somewhere that you should have about 100w per flowering plant, but with the new bulbs, they're saying that 23w equals about 100 "old watts". Does that mean that if you're using the new CFL bulbs, that you should only have 23w per flowering plant, or should you have about 4 of those 23w bulbs per plant?

  8. Aluminum foil does not do too bad, the hot spot thing is a myth. If lights are bad ass enough to create hot spots then you dont need a reflective surface.

  9.
real watts is the real number, 4  bulbs = 92 watts.

  10. Sorry, I didn't even answer all your questions. No, the door isn't always open cause I have dogs. I don't have a permanent thermometer right now, but my boy let me read the temp with his, and it was in the high 70's. If it gets any hotter though I'm gonna need to figure something out. I'm going to get a small fan to put in the closet with them, and eventually I'll install a legit ventilation system and carbon filter and shit. I'm kinda thinking that this will me my 'low cost grow' to really learn. I Know I've grown before, but I've never really known shit about it until now. I've been researching everything about everything, and since my fiancé is on board with doing it right, you'll most likely see me in the future slowly acquiring pieces to make my setup better and better. Any ideas on how I can create a cheap ventilation system out of the closet? I'm not worried about cutting the door or trying to go through the walls, but I wanna make sure I'm even doing the right thing first lol. Thanks for the input btw, too.

So that would work then? 4 23w, 2700k CFL's per flowering plant?

  11. Lmao I like that. Thanks snoop. And thanks for the input. I've seen some of your other posts around grasscity.

  12.
I grow under 1,000 watt lights, I can cook weed right on the plant. :D

Pipe hot air strait up into an attic/crawl space if you can. Have a passive intake at floor level.

People use such powerful fans because they grow in a small space. Bigger is better.

A cool basement is great, come winter time I dont even have to turn on the heat till its 20F outside.

  13. Got them all up on video game cases. The closest is probably about an inch, which I've seen is the right distance

  14. you should not have used such shallow containers. When the plant is small, it's trying to establish it's root spread and your just cutting off space. Those roots are gonna wanna go down, then spread/branch out. Those container look like you have maybe 2-3 inches of soil which isn't close to enough for a seedling. I'd say at least, and I mean at least, 6 inched deep you'd want it. And with your choice of containers, probably not the wisest. You're going to want to transplant them real soon. How are you going to do that with a solid wide spread container? I'd recommend solo cups for seedling. Perfect size and disposable, plus you can cut them making transplanting easy. I hope this info helps. Best of luck to ya!

  15. I'm jealous snoop. I really wish I could get some nice MH bulbs and HPS's for flowering. My problem is that I germinated all the seeds, then decided to buy my shit. Ugh. Lol

  16. I know you're right. Like I said I friggen did this way too spontaneously. Any ideas on how to transplant them? I mean, it might be a pain, but it's gotta be possible, right? And should I try to put them into somewhat large containers? Maybe like gallon size?

Sent from my SGH-M919 using Grasscity Forum mobile app
in those, there's no way for the water to runoff either, so I'm really kicking myself right now for choice of container.

  17. Do you think that I could transplant them into solo cups now? Or would that just be stupid because I'd have to transplant them again in a few weeks?

  18.
let them fill up the root space they have now, they dont need transplanted for a week or two.

  19.
    Snoop.... You are slipping bro

Why aren't you getting him to go DWC  :poke:

  20. Lol what's DWC? And word Thanks snoop. I'll keep updating the pics so you can see how they do and hopefully be able to help me tell when they're filling up enough.
