Yellow Cucumbers?

  1. So, the fruits on two of my cucumber plants have been turning yellow. It's not all of them, strangely, and this has happened once before, and resolved without any intervention aside from some extra fertilizing. The plants themselves have remained healthy, aside from a couple leaves began turning yellow around the edges for a few days (potassium deficiency?), but resolved with the extra fertilizing.

The fruit is still firm, and has the distinctive cucumber smell, and does not taste bad (though not quite right, if you get me). They're just school bus yellow. They're not overripe. As I said, it's only on two of my four plants, and occurs with most, but not all, of the fruits on them. I've grown cucumbers many times in the past, and never had this issue.

Anybody had a similar experience? Am I just not fertilizing enough, and it's a nutrient deficiency causing it? Or is something else wrong?

  2. As far as i know what makes most plants, and what not, green is the chlorophyll, so maybe its lacking that or something? Obviously im not an expert and have extremely little gardening experience, but thats my first thought.. Definitely interesting though, i look forward to finding out what it is

  3. Are the cukes yellow the whole time growing? Or just turn yellow at the end?

  4. Are you growing them in the same spot again and again? You may be depleting the soil of nutes and not replenishing them right. Every few grows, throw some peanuts in the ground. Legumes will return nitrogen and keep the soil healthy. Castings and manures help too.

  5. They've been yellow, not turning from green to yellow.

Last year I grew cucumbers, squash, and zucchini in a separate garden plot. This year I planted them in the other, larger plot, I can't remember what exactly was grown in this spot last year.

Both plots could probably use some additional castings, to be honest. I've already added a lot, the topsoil has a lot of clay in it. Could it be a pH issue? I haven't done any testing, wonder if that might be a mistake.

  6. Idk about soil, but those look exactly like the cukes I see on in abandoned gardens, but those were yellow from being on the vine too long.
Shit, if it still tastes good, what's the problem?
