I'm using Fox Farm trio right now but I've been thinking about trying something else. I have had success with FF but it's the only thing I've used so I don't know if I could be doing better. What sort of things should I look for when choosing a brand? I'm sure every brand has people praising it and people denouncing it. It seems like it's all personal preference and my best bet is to choose randomly and only switch if I have a problem. I'm using soil right now but I'm looking into hydro right now and debating a switch

I have no comment on brand names, but I would suggest adding a bottle of silica to your lineup if you haven't already. You'll notice the difference.
You're right, it is all personal prefference. Most people will never see much of a difference between the big fert companies. FF, GH, ADV...none of them noticably outperform the other. Now, it is possible for a certain strain to slightly one over the other...but dont expect many differences between switching between high quality ferts, if you are using them correctly. Although, if you plan on switching to a hydro set up, GH is a little easier to dial in than FF on most systems

when I 1st started growing I used what I had around the house and it was ok for a little while. The next nutrient I used was Miracle Grow all purpose plant food. Next was MG for grow and Schultz bloom booster for flower. After those I went to fox farm grow for about 1 month it was slow so I went with MG again for the rest of the grow cycle then Cha Ching for bloom. Last year I tried Humboldt nutz for grow also slow for what I was use to so MG the rest of grow again then Cha ching mixed with big bud from adv nutz. They loved the mix since big bud (Powder) is 1-17-38 and cha ching is 9-50-10 they had a wide rang of goodies. This year I am using Verda for grow mixed with MG and they are green as ever and for bloom I will go with big bud and cha ching again. People thought my outdoor was indoor after it cured.
