Need Help With Gaming Pc

  1. Hey guys. I need to upgrade my pc to play some games and am wondering what I need to do.

My budget is about $500 (£300) and I already have a pc so the option to upgrade it rather than buy a new one is there.

This is what my current PC has:

    Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5800 @ 3.20GHz

    4.1 GB RAM

Intel(R) G41 Express Chipset (The graphics card which apparently sucks)

    Realtek High Definition Audio

    684.6 GB Free Disk Space

Will I need to invest in a new gaming pc altogether or could I just upgrade my graphics card or what should I do?

    Thanks for any help.

  2. no, no and no. your computer unfortunately isnt worth squat. im hoping its a full size case in which case you should be able to keep the case, disk drives, maby power supply (depends on whats in there) and your hdd (but you are going to want to replace it at some point due to its age). you need to ask yourself are you going to be upgrading it in the near future (chances are yes as you havnt allocated much) because if so it would be wise to buy little bits and pieces. its bound to be better then what you got now anyway.

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/tG2RVn that is a pretty good cpu/mobo/ram to start, then later you can add a new psu, video card, new hdd, more ram (probably in that order).

can you take the side off and take some photos?

With $500 you might as well build a new budget rig, something that can be easily upgraded, and keep your hard drive/s/disc drives. Since you already have that you may be able to get this:

I wouldn't go Intel with that budget.

  4.
So basically I will need a lot more than £300 to get a half decent gaming rig going?

I don't have anyway to take photo's unfortunately no.

Thanks for the information. I read the comments on that video and apparently the rig that was built in the video is a bit more expensive now at $750 which is a bit out of my budget.

I would like to add another question to this thread. Is it really worth it to buy a gaming PC?

I had a look at Steam because I heard a bunch of PC gamers talking about it and seen a lot of cool, cheap games, so that initially captured my interest. But I have a PS4 and a decent amount of good games for it, and also a PS3 with a selection of good games, so should I really try to get some more cash together to by a decent PC or is it not really worth it?

    Thanks

If you really like playing games, PC is the way to go. Its a little more expensive upfront, but once you're up and running it is way cheaper.I have close to 100 games and I've spent maybe $400 on them. And most of them are AAA titles, I'm not really a fan of the indie scene.

I got a PS4 on launch and I don't even play it anymore.

You don't have to follow that build exactly. Here's another budget build:

Also if you go to the LinusTechTips.com forums, there's a lot of people over there that will help you build your PC to fit your needs.
