Rookie Question, Does Holding The Smoke Longer Make One More High?

  1. So some mates and I are having a debate about whether holding the smoke in longer helps you get more high. Some argue it's a waste to breathe it our straight away. So I thought I'd end it by asking gc. :) also I'm keen for a chat so people's message me pleaseee

  2. After about 4 seconds all you're doing is depriving your brain of oxygen which I guess will make you feel higher for like a minute but yeah a majority of the thc is absorbed in 4-6 seconds

  4. I used to hold it in a long time, then I did it for short times, lately I've been doing this gay thing where I breathe in and out without losing too much smoke. Honestly, I don't think the duration makes much of a difference, but I can't really tell when I'm stoned. Hope that makes sense ;p

    I never bother to hold it at all, just inhale a bit of fresh air after I clear the pipe. I get plenty enough stoned. There's plenty of evidence to support the fact that holding it in is simply depriving yourself of oxygen.
     
    Idk if that second part is your sig or what, but I don't think it's abnormal for women to drive a standard; my girlfriend taught me how actually.

    a few seconds, tops. After that, your respiration cycle needs to repeat, in order to gain new input. Holding hits for 20+ seconds is just hurting you, allowing more ash to stick to your insides (although if you vape, i'm not sure how that might be different... though i'd think the same "more than a few seconds is unnecessary" rule applies).
     
    What i usually do is hold for "a beat or two," and then slowly let it out... but i try to completely expel every hit, before taking another (except in certain circumstances...)
     
    I'd say it's a waste if you immediately exhale, but after a few seconds, you've already gotten all you're going to get out of it, and there's no use holding your breath longer.
     
    I'd say "hold for as long as not uncomfortable," is a decent guide.
     
     
    edit: i had another comment about this recently, where i talked about how you need more respiration cycles to get the most efficiency out of your bud.
     
  7. With weed I wouldn't hold it in too long. You only need to hold weed in for 4-8 seconds pretty much, at that point all of the thc has absorbed into your cells. I only actually hold in my smoke for a long time when I'm smoking hash or kief. Wayyyyyyyyyyyyy too many people take fat hash oil dabs and blow the smoke out immediately and look like idiots. When you take a dab if you hold it in for 20+ seconds it will absorb a lot more of the thc into your cells than it would if you just blew it out right away. So the rule pretty much is just hold it in for not more than 10 seconds when its weed, and hold it in for a while when its hash or kief. Don't be one of those assholes that takes a dab that was given to them and then exhale all of that wasted thc immediately.

  10. Holding in smoke longer only feels like your getting higher because your brain is lacking oxygen, resulting in that light headed feeling. By the time your done inhaling the smoke has already been in your lungs for at least 3 seconds which is more than enough to get high. Stay faded :smoking:
     
  11. Holding it in has no benefit. THC is absorbed within seconds of entering the lungs. The reason people feel higher is because they're making themselves hypoxic (lack of oxygen) so they get lightheaded. All you're doing when you hold it is letting the bad plant matter smoke damage your lungs. Only hold for 3 seconds, stay high  :bongin:
     
  12. I reckon if you inhale then exhale straight away then that is pretty pointless, just smoke the way you feel comfortable I guess?

  15. One trick I feel maybe gets me higher or helps my high last longer is to exhale through my nose so my sinuses get coated with thc too.
     
  16. to my knowledge, you're not really gaining anything after like 3-5 seconds, it just deprives you of oxygen and adds more nasties to your lungs. 
     
    a trick I've told to newer people (that I do myself) is after taking a hit, inhale an additional breath of fresh air and then hold it for like 4 seconds and exhale. seems to get me plenty stoned and I'm still able to breathe well 
     
  17. THC gets absorbed almost instantaneously when you inhale the smoke. You dont need to hold for longer than 1 second to get everything. You dont get any higher from holding in smoke, its just placebo because you're depriving your head of oxygen so you get light headed..

    these are facts.
     
  18. For me it makes a difference if I hold it in 2 or 3 seconds vs 10 seconds. Anything beyond 10 seconds probably doesn't help though, that's probably a bit beyond the maximum
     
  19. it technically doesnt make you higher. as in holding in 5 sec vs 10 seconds... 5 is the max you should really hold in. Vapor hits however, you can ghost however much you want :3
     
  20. After 4 seconds all the THC is absorbed by your fat cells. Anything longer is just hurting your lungs and depraving your brain oxygen. I hold in for 2-3 seconds and its great.
