What Is Life?

  1. first things first...just smoked two fattys so i apologize in advance

    so anyways. wtf is life?

somewhere somehow sometime we (by we i mean all living things) went from different element reacting with each other by transferrring electrons and such. to a system that takes in energy...and does nothing with it. it has no effect to the matter or particles. it just lives and then dies

the first bacteria is kind of understandable. maybe a system of oxygen, nitrogen and whatever atoms developed. but these inanimate particles that formed a system together now out of the blue somehow learned that it wanted to survive?

and another thing. somehow this system of atoms and molecules learned how to duplicate its DNA to create offspring?

something here dont seem right to me...

  2. dude your username is missing the egg

  3. This is life :smoke:

  4. Life is a setting created for human internal growth. A place where we can enhance the unseen. Throw around a bunch of emotion.

Life is all but what we see

  5. its everything.

From here you can possibly find your own answers to what life is.  In my opinion life is a dance... It's as much fun as it is work.  And the beautiful things in life are what Nature has to offer.  For example right now it's berry season and there is probably buckets full of berries in a forest near you.

I would ask: What is living life?  Many people are alive but are not living; they chose to not live.  That's what happens when you try to control things, you stop living... you freeze in a moment and you're always trying to create or recreate that moment.  In my opinion a big part of life is letting go and not trying to control anything.  This way when an opportunity arises you can seize the moment, live it to the fullest and remember it later.  Knowing that each moment is a memory is beautiful.  Think of your childhood and all the memories you have... they are moments. You cannot recreate them but some people try to recreate moments in their lives. I would say live now, live today and create your memories to look back on down the road.

Alright time for some biology one point at a time

    1.so anyways. wtf is life?
somewhere somehow sometime we (by we i mean all living things) went from different element reacting with each other by transferrring electrons and such. to a system that takes in energy...and does nothing with it. it has no effect to the matter or particles. it just lives and then dies.

    1. Ok well technically by biological standard life is something that needs to move, replicate or reproduce, respond to changes in the environment, produce energy through means like photosynthesis or eating, excrete waste (poop), and the ability to grow. So that's what a living organism is. If it doesn't fit those 7 criteria then it's not a living thing. You're aware that all living organisms are composed of very complex arrangements of elements interacting by sharing and transferring electrons. You claim that these elements did something and now are just part of a system that lives and dies. I claim that is false. We are still a vast array of complex chemical interactions constantly producing our energy through atp syntheses and other shit like that after eating some food. It allows us to live our "life" and do all the things that we do which fit those 7 criteria. Yes we live and die but that's the way the system has evolved over time to be. It is what it is.

2.the first bacteria is kind of understandable. maybe a system of oxygen, nitrogen and whatever atoms developed. but these inanimate particles that formed a system together now out of the blue somehow learned that it wanted to survive?

    2. The problem with your statement is that the earliest organisms had no thoughts or will to survive. They evolved into what they did by mere chance and interactions between the environment and molecules which happened over billions of years. The first one that had a DNA style system became more likely to survive and replicate. Then by continued interaction between the environment one day maybe more organelles like tiny chloroplast like structures were able to permeate these membranes and give these early organisms the ability to produce energy. From there you have a cell who keeps producing energy and growing in size until the cell becomes unstable and merely splits due to the polarity of the chemical interactions between the different sizes. Maybe it split with half a set of DNA in each thus replicating. You see how theoretically gaining one function could easily lead to another. This became advantageous for the likelihood of this to continue considering that it has essentially replicated with very similar chemical composition to exist and potentially replicate. Evolution is not based on will. You can't will yourself to evolve. The only way to evolve is through random generic mutation which is better suited to an environment. Meaning when an organism accidentally fucks up in coding it might create a phenotype such as a different color or something and that might be better suited to their environment by shielding them from predators. Now say this animal reproduces and it's offspring all have his color then they will be more likely to survive and therefore more likely to spread their genes, the new color, than the other colored animals. Often over time if the environment stays the same the color which is better suited will become the predominant color of the animal. This is not because the animal wills itself to be a different color but merely because of genetic mutation and natural selection.

    3. and another thing. somehow this system of atoms and
molecules learned how to duplicate its DNA to create offspring?

    3. They didn't learn. The problem is you keep thinking of this organism like it's some kind of person. They are very basically chemical compositions. Single celled organisms evolved over time by mere chance when certain lipids which naturally form membranes engulfed amino acids and other complex organic molecules to form a cell. This cell most likely came across organelles similar to chloroplasts and engulfed them which allowed them to produce energy from photosynthesis. The whole thing is that evolution is an extremely long process which requires a lot of time. It probably took a ton of what I think I referred to as proto cells or non living cells before one was able to produce energy and reproduce. I mean evolution science when it comes to origin is not the most solid. It's hard to study something like that although there is some decent proof to show that development of organic beings through inorganic chemical interactions is possible.

  8.  I'd answer these questions but i get the suspicion I'm being baited into a discussion involving circular logic.
