Can Hill/incline Walking Replace Jogging?

  1. Sup blades.

So I have a knee injury that prohibits me from jogging (I can physically jog, but I get debilitating pain the next day...So it's really not worth it), and I was wondering whether or not cranking up the incline and pace on the treadmill at the gym could serve as a substitute for jogging? I've been walking every day for two miles at 3.6mph and an incline of 10/15 (in addition to my regular strength training routine).

  2. If you have a knee injury, i can only recommend swimming or biking in place of exercise that would compromise your knees.

I dont think incline will help fix your issue, only make you work harder.

  3. have you considered cycling? i know for me its muuuch less lower impact than a treadmill at times.

  5. Uh the last time I checked, there were a bunch of teenage pot smokers that don't have a clue as to what's happening here on this forum.

I'd highly suggest you ask a doctor or a physical therapist. Good luck!

I'm not really looking to fix my knee injury (it's too late for that). I'm just looking for a lower impact cardio/aerobic exercise than jogging.

  7. I hear you.

But i have bad knees too. And my doctors all recommended swimming or biking in place of putting weight directly on the injury.

    Sorry if i wasnt clear.

I've already had surgery (ACL and PCL) and physical therapy, there's just residual chronic pain that's exacerbated by high impact exercise.

I don't really have access to a pool unfortunately (and don't really have time to go the local swimming hole), but I hadn't considered cycling. I shall try that!

  10. It certainly gets your heart rate up which is essential to burn calories

  11. Does your gym have the stair master or stepper machines? Those are a good alternative.

The best would be pedaling exercises. You can of course raise the incline on the treadmill and do a fast paced walk as well.
