  5. Btw, here's an interesting read that would be interesting to research. Being divergent and seeking to learn the connections between concepts from various cultures is the greatest gateway into knowledge.

Says who? The interpretation of what "knowledge" even pertains to or means is entirely subjective. To certain people, studying religion and the culture of primitive people, even if they are our ancestors, is a tremendous waste of time. There are people who love philosophy, but hate the religious undertone of some of the conversations that come naturally with some philosophical topics. People get caught up in trying to understand people, who were trying to understand a world, that no longer exists. We are beyond anything they could have even dreamed or conceived in writing. Their gods brought people back to life, in 100 years you'll basically be living a double life if not better. Their gods flooded the earth; we're planning on building fully functional aquatic cities and sending people to live on another planet, amongst an endlessly expanding void. Don't misunderstand what I'm saying: There are a multitude of things to be learned from indulging in other cultures, but realistically speaking "knowledge" gained with the understanding of culture hasn't necessarily made the world a better place. What good is this "knowledge" if it continues to divide, instead of inspiring universal tolerance. Humans as they are, are bound to conflict, and bound to curse those who are different from them. It's natural.

There's going to be a point where humans decide whether they want to remain as is, or aspire to be technologists, and I tend to believe we'll choose the latter based mostly out of necessity. Because people who have all the "knowledge" in the world, aren't necessarily the ones who are altering the course of it. They're little sects of individuals who indulge in parables, delusions, and history (this is the only one I actually respect, and for obvious reason). They become gatekeepers to the spiritually-enlightened, pass that knowledge on to very few people, and die. There's this misinterpretation of "knowledge" where people feel that enlightenment is the ultimate goal. Enlightenment doesn't mean shit if you're studying culture, when there's some 20-something year old kid who is developing the technology that's even going to allow our species to continue living and have any, by tracking meteors more efficiently, or by harnessing solar energy in a way which is so sustainable that the public cannot ignore it. None of these required copious amounts of study or indulgence in the past, and I'm sure those people feel just as knowledgable in their craft, especially since about 5% of the world can work at that level. True "knowledge", at least in my opinion, is higher understanding that serves a greater purpose, not one that is self-serving.

  7. Greater purpose to what end? Your knowledge has boundaries? You've set parameters saying this knowledge is useful and this knowledge is not?

Who lives an who dies? Who remains forever? Some remain hungry, heart flaming in passion, consuming them in these flames they pursue. Others find contentment and solace in emptiness, in the way. They are yielding and obtain that supreme understanding that leads to the ultimate technology.

There is no primitive, there is no advanced, the wheel of time turns forever grinding away everything in it's path. The hubris of man, the petty ignorance of man, the boundless delusions of man. These are the fetters of man.

You speak of subjective in determining knowledge? You have no idea what subjective means. Subjective is the idea of progress. Subjective is the idea of it's lack. Subjective is the idea of good and bad and this is the duality in your thoughts.

There is no lack of knowledge. There is nothing in this world that is not knowledge. Nothing in your world and nothing in mine.

  8. Studying concepts in various cultures gives insight into their evolution, their language and what similarities humans share in these things in an all encompassing sense.

How will we know where we're going if we don't know where we've been.

  9. You could argue that our inability to separate ourselves from our past, is destroying our possibility to even have a future to contemplate.

  10. Our inability to separate our selves from everything destroys our ability to be happy in any shape or form. You want to know what enlightenment is? The complete detachment from all concepts. The stillness of mind that reconizes the emptiness of what we consider reality.

  11. Understanding the true nature of reality makes one stop their endless chase. It makes one aware and happy. They can do anything without any thorns in their feet, without any pebbles in their shoes, without any heavy straps on their shoulders, without any chafing wedgie forming every 5 minutes of walking.

  12. To understand the correspondences between cultures, philosophies and spiritual systems gives insight into the archetypes that underlie the human psyche, and this gives insight into the Mind behind the Universe...or at least that's one viewpoint...
