Cant Sleep Unless Im High

Discussion in 'Apprentice Marijuana Consumption' started by sitheist, Jul 8, 2014.

  1. Like the title says, I can't fall asleep anymore unless I'm high. I've had problems with insomnia for pretty much my whole life, now that I think about it. I used to take a lot of sleeping pills, but the problem was that I became really dependent on them and built a tolerance to them but the more I took, the shittier I felt the next morning. I had so much trouble waking up that I just skipped a lot of class.

This summer I've smoked pretty much everyday, almost always before bed, and I've had very few restless nights until recently. I tried not smoking right before bed because I'd been smoking with friends and thought I didn't need to make a habit of smoking so much, so I skipped the pre-sleep bowl and spent most of the night tossing and turning. That's where I am tonight too, but I think I'm about to give in and break out the vape. I need some sleep and I'm just getting more and more upset about it.

I'm not sure this is so much an "I'm addicted to weed" problem as an "I have chronic insomnia and anxiety" problem. The weed really helps because it sort of turns off all the racing thoughts I have that are keeping me up. Currently I've been stressed about my summer internship that I hate, and I think the reason I've been smoking so much is that I just don't want to think about how much I hate it and how its so boring and soul sucking and how I don't want to waste my life working a job that I hate like so many adults I know.

I don't smoke large quantities before bed, usually just one bowl from my pipe or vape, which is like the size of a one-hitter. If I'm just smoking by myself before bed, I can make a gram last more than a week. I have a pretty low tolerance for someone who smokes so often, and the only difference that I've noticed recently is that the high doesn't last as long, otherwise it is nearly as intense as it was before this summer.

Sorry for getting sidetracked a little there... I guess I just wish I could talk to someone who wouldn't immediately start getting on my ass for smoking too much.

  2. Have you tried taking melatonin at night as well?

  3. Pharmacy/Drugstore Melatonin is bullshit.. It just help like 10 minutes (means nothing). About year ago I was saw document which explains that it's just cashes. It is waste of money... Like so many other shit..

And if it help some, then it is just a placebo effect..

  4. Good indica is perfect for a good nights sleep. I don't see nothing wrong with it, whatever makes you sleep better at night.~~

  5.
Be careful with those herbal supplements. I have insomnia problems too (4:40am writing this as proof) and have found continued use of herbal and prescriptions causes very bad side affects..

OP, I've had your same concerns. It's okay though, would you rather be sober and up all night, doped up on pillz which causes you to wake up late, or would you rather smoke a bowl or two then go to bed? If anything, don't smoke too much before hitting the sheets. I've found that if i smoke a lot, which i usually end up taking too many dabs, i end up wake up very groggy. It's a give an take situation. People claim cannabis is a miracle drug, that may be true, but that doesn't mean it's free of side affects. Everything has an equal and opposite reaction.. I'll take the lesser of the evils though..

  6.
Be careful? It's supposed to be natural.

  7.
    The poppy plant is natural.
    Poison ivy is natural.

Just because something is "natural" doesn't mean it's okay to be put into your body for an extended amount of time... There are a list of side affects for every medication and supplement. Besides the fact they're labeled as "herbal supplements" are not approved by the FDA. Do i need to do a google search for you to provide you with a list of the side affects from prolonged use? Or do you think you can do that yourself?.... Increased risk of blood clotting, thoughts of suicide/depression, headaches, increasing risk for seizures.. Plus it can interfere with other medications, like if you're taking a blood thinner, diabetes medication, immunosuppressants, and birth control. Have i proven my point?

  8. Thc dependance.

Also what can contribute to suppressed appetite and irritablility when sober.

You have to just echaust youself during the day and then when you go to bed turn off your tv and phone and just lay still.

It can still take a while doing this method, but the intensw dreams you have when sober are amazing.

I've taken melatonin, it worked okay for about a month until my body got used to it. It's okay for the occasional restless night but not very effective for long term use, at least in my case.

I used to take like 2 melatonin plus Benadryl and/or doxylamine. That was pretty bad and actually caused me to have horrible racing thoughts and panic attacks.

The strongest thing I've ever taken for sleep was half a Vicodin, left over from getting my wisdom teeth out. I've also taken codeine cough syrup for sleep, but never regularly.

I'm pretty familiar with sleeping pills, they all suck dick. Weed is better by far than any of them.

I'm not angry. I just think that's basic knowledge. I didn't mean to make the font bold btw. Don't even know how that happened lol.

I didn't have any bud and i usually smoke everyday. I'm on vacation and was out for 2 days. Just hit the shop today though and stocked up. Still up late taking some fatty dabs. That primo too.

Maybe it's okay that you use it to fall asleep. It doesn't sound you are "addicted" to weed. Rather it sounds like it has taken the place of sleeping pills and it actually lets you fall asleep at night. Depending on your prices, it doesn't sound it is costing you too much either ($10 a week?). If anything, you have more excuse than most people to smoke.

  13.  most people with your problem take sleeping pills or other pharmaceuticals..

so if weed is working for your condition, then that's great.

why does one need an excuse to smoke weed?

  14. Dude, if smoking a nice joint, bowl or bong helps you sleep then whats the harm? Better than these fuckin doctors givin you sleeping pills that may or may not work and have side effects. Stick to the marijuana man, it helps you sleep so power to you. Sleep safely tonight.

  15. I like the way you guys put it. My doctor and parents both know I smoke to help with insomnia and they're completely cool with it. I think my doctor would actually help me get a med card once Iowa gets mmj.

It's actually a few of my friends who give me crap for smoking so much. There's one in particular, she smokes occasionally but always says I'm addicted. I've tried to explain all the problems I've had with sleeping pills, but she still thinks I'm over exaggerating and that I'm using insomnia as an excuse to get high all the time. She thinks of smoking only as something to do at parties, like drinking.

I have another close friend who doesn't smoke at all and whenever I hang out with her now she always suspects I'm high and will try to call me out on it even when I'm not high. On one occasion, she invited me to a bonfire on the condition that I don't "do pot" there or show up high.

I think this upsets me so much because these are two people that I've been friends with all through high school. It really hurts to know that people whom I've chosen to associate with for 4+ years suddenly don't understand my choices, don't approve of them, and think I'm going down a bad path because of all that garbage drug propaganda they've been fed their whole life.

  16. They sound like they are not well informed on pot, and what it really is and does to you.

  17. Not at all. I'm pretty sure they just consider marijuana a party drug.

  18. To sleep at all, I take a combo of prescription drugs plus melatonin and magnesium (supposed to be a natural muscle relaxant). Even so, I have to take them around 2 hours before I think of getting in bed. If I have weed on hand, I can just vape a couple of bowls and put on the right music, and be out like a light. I'd rather be all natural any day of the week. People that don't understand what you're going through are just misinformed. Hang in there!

  19. Sounds like you just have bad insomnia. You pretty much can either be dependent on prescription pills or on cannabis to sleep. I'd highly recommend cannabis because it is less toxic, doesn't cause sleepwalking (like ambien does) and it has other health benefits as well.

I personally suffer from insomnia and I used to drink 2-3 beers before bed to knock myself out. Now I vaporize about .1 grams of Indica an hour before bed and I always fall asleep within ten minutes and stay asleep for at least six hours. I believe that cannabis is the healthiest choice that you could make in your current situation.

  20. my insomnia is so bad that I stay up for days at a time, just wishing I could sleep. even when I took ambien. the only thing that has every really helped me is weed. I figure I could be addicted to various pills, or just smoke a bowl, and hit snooze town.

I've been dry for nearly 3 weeks now, and its been some of the roughest nights so far. I've been staying up for 2 days and sleeping for 4hrs, then staying up again. its an endless cycle for me.*sigh*
