Chefs Second Course - Cherry Bomb, Ak49 Amnesia Haze Autos

Discussion in 'Organic Grow Journals' started by ChefZiggy, Jul 6, 2014.

  1. No pics, but I noticed the re-vegging is starting to take place.  There are still a few pistils here and there, but growth has resurged and I think they are about to explode.  I still need to make better use of the space in my room.  Pretty sure I'm looking at 5 females to do something with.  Guess I could flower three and keep the rest in veg until that's done?

  2.
These are the revegged seedlings?  So how long did that take, maybe 2 weeks?  Not bad at all....

I need to check my log to see when I flipped back to 24/0 but that's close.

    Edit: 12.5 days.

Here you go, Gandalf.  Re-vegging seedlings.  I don't think they have completely revegged, as I still see some fairly new pistils, but new growth is pretty vigorous.

First the Thai Sticks.  They are responding the best I think.  Then again it could just be sativa genes.  Here's TS3 at 13 days back under 20/4 or 24/0 (Can't remember which is getting which right now.)  It's kind of hard to get it in detail, but you can see lots of branching going on at the last couple of nodes.  These were all topped, by the way.

And here's TS4.  Similar bushing out.

    TS4-ReVeg-13-3.jpg   TS4-ReVeg-13-4.jpg

And White Rhino #2.  It is very dense and hard to get a good shot of.  Needs a haircut too.
    WR2-ReVeg-13-1.jpg   WR2-ReVeg-13-2.jpg

And finally the Jack Herer Fem.  She's showing a good bit of pistils too.  Probably from when I had the bloom room on 12/12 for a few days when space was an issue.  It is also getting very dense.  LST'ing these is getting tricky.

  5. Everything looks uber-healthy!  Those Thai Sticks are awesome.....

  6. Thanks!  I've been looking forward to them.  I expect I will like the smoke very much.

Well..tonight I'm smoking the last of the last ounce I hope to ever buy. (Barring a trip to Colorado.)  Something of a celebration I suppose.  Thanks to what I've managed to grow so far this has lasted me since back in January.  Never knew a name, just called it Couchlock, since that's what it is.

Also, I rearranged the bloom room again.  Found some smaller trays (kittty litter pans) that I can fit two side by side and move them in and out easier.  So now I can theoretically handle six plants in there.  The Cherry Bomb is coming down this weekend.  I need the space.  One of the Thai Sticks is still in a 2 gallon pot, plus there is another White Rhino that needs moving up to a 5 gal. pot.  I potted the remaining two WR's into 2 gal pots tonight also.  They'll need to go to 5 gallon pots before long.  I'm planning on keeping one of the TS and one WR as mothers.  Problem is, the two lagging WR's aren't going to show sex for a while.

Oh the sorrows of too many plants... :bongin:

    BBR-1.jpg

  7. Looking good, cant wait to my grow is properly underway. Dont want to be buying anymore, too much hassle and the smoke is never as good if you didnt grow it yourself.

  8. Amnesia Haze sent 1.4zips to the curing jars.  Close to an ounce of trim.

And I have stunk up the whole house doing it.  Guess I need to put a window fan in up here to blow the smell out when I trim.

  9. Here's an update on the seedlings.  Got around to giving three of them a haircut and some LST today/night.  First up is TS4.  She's really bushed out and needed this trim.  Here's before and after.

The WR#2 was also in sore need of a trim.  She's so bushy I think she's hurting herself on light.  Well not anymore.

Finally, here's the Jack Herer. Another heavily bushed plant.  And she went trifolate after being topped!

I should have some pics of the LST work up later or tomorrow.  But next up is the cutting the Cherry Bomb.

  10. The Cherry Bomb had to come down this evening.  Needed the space in the Bloom Bloom Room.

Here's the final structure shot.  The nuggets are sparkly with trichs (see images) and fairly dense, but I'm afraid the yield is going to be disappointing.  Maybe an ounce. :confused_2:

Lastly, a shot of the room.  I've done some LST since this shot, more on that tomorrow.

  11. OK, so I'm on a roll.  Here's a bit of the LST work I did.  Trying to spread them out as much as I can, right?

The first one is the WR3, the rest are TS4.

Just posted this over in a curing thread, but figured I would put it here for posterity. This is how I cure as of now.

I'm still a total noob at this, but here is how I'm doing it and it seems to be working pretty well. First of all, I try not to water a plant that will be harvested for a couple of days prior to the chop. I figure that helps reduce the overall hang and dry time. Also, I'll remove any fan leaves or really big sugar leaves before chopping.

I do chop the whole plant at once and usually cut one stem close to the base for a hook to hang over the string in my drying tent.

The tent has a carbon filter and fan that runs 30 minutes every two hours to exchange the air in the tent. Plus there is a small fan near the top of the tent keeping the air circulated. RH and temp stay around 50% and 75. By the end of a week it is usually ready to dry trim.

I'll start with the smaller branches and work my way to the cola(s). Basically taking the driest parts first. Once trimmed, I use quart sized wide mouth Ball jars and put just about 10 grams in each jar. That seems to use about ¾ of the available space or a little more. That will improve as the buds cure.

I also put a Boveda 62.5% humidity pack in each jar. These are wonderful products in my opinion. I also use a little digital hygrometer in a couple of jars to kind of keep watch on things.

For the first week or so I burp the jars twice a day. Burping typically involves inspection through the glass first, then a gentle shake/stir to keep the buds separated and slowly compacting. (Over time this also helps the final shape of the nuggets.) Then I open the seal and take a sniff test. This is also to check for mold or other odd problems. So far there have been none, but I remain diligent.

By the second week I'll burp maybe once a day, or every couple of days depending on the hygrometer readings. By the third week, I may not burp at all. Also, during this process the jars are kept in a cabinet in my office. At the end of at least a month I'll stash them in a less accessible space where they will remain until needed.

So far the final products have been very smooth and fragrant once you break the nuggets apart.

Any tips or suggestions are always welcomed.

Today I finished off the first 5.34g of the AK49.  Didn't realize I had been "sampling" that one that much, but it's gone.  (Not to fear, there's another 30g+)  Seriously liking it.  It is technically the first I've grown that I chose the seeds for.  The Northern Storm Auto's were freebies.  I done good!

Very fruity smell and taste so far.  Smooth as butter to smoke.  Vapes like a dream.  And this is only after 20 days in the jars.

I also sampled the Amnesia Haze this evening. (7 days in the jar.) Crazy citrus/pine smell on that one right now.  I melted into my easy chair afterwards, but it has left me with a little headache.  Not quite ready yet.

The Cherry bomb is almost ready to trim up.  Probably do that tomorrow or Sunday.  Then I'm through with Fall harvest I guess.

EDIT: The CB was drier than I thought.  Went ahead and trimmed it up.  A disappointing 17g.

Smells amazing though.  Not exactly Cherry yet, but maybe as it cures.

  14. Sounds like you got yourself a nice little stash now. ;)

That's a shame about the cherry bomb hopefully its top notch when its cured. Fingers crossed..
Do I recall you saying it went like 10 days over expected flower time too?? :/

  15. Had to check my log, but she went 12 weeks and only calls for 9. Which is just an estimate, of course, but still.

  16. So I just hit up Buildasoil.com for the first time.  Popped on some aloe vera and coconut powder as well as some glacial rock dust and BioChar.  Gonna reammend the soil currently resting in the bins.  The remaining AK49 and Amnesia Haze seeds will be going into that the first of next year.

All in all not a bad purchase.  What with shipping being included.

The Amnesia Haze is curing out with a really strange, but likeable aroma.  For a while it was very diesel like, but now, the best way I can describe it is like opening up a whole pack of Fruit Stripe Gum and inhaling the fumes from that.  It's not exactly fruity, but the back of the throat hit is similar to the gum.  The smoke is similar and very smooth.  (Organics for the win!!)

It kinda kicks ass too.  Which was the desired effect.   :smoking:

I think I go night night now....

Oh. Almost forgot.  The teenagers are coming up on 60 days from seed.  I'm going to get some photos up tomorrow for discussion, but I think that sounds like a good time to flip.

  18. Glad to hear the Amnesia Haze worked out nicely for you Chef, what was the total dry yield from her in the end??

I've always been amazed at how the Cannabis genus has so much variety, not just the fact that their are thousands of strains of Cannabis out there, but at how much each strain can vary from itself with differing cannabinoid, terpenoid and flavonoid contents. It just gets more and more interesting!!!

Organics I've never really gotten into to be honest, but I do know of it's advantages. I'am however finding myself in this corner of the forums reading up on it more and more recently so I guess it's gripping me slowly lol. I have also been playing around making organic foliar feeds and testing them on the garden veg, not too bad.

I was also wondering have you Chef, or anyone else following this journal had any experience with Biobizz organics growing mediums and/or feeds?? Thanks in advance :)

  19. Hey CX. I got 1.4 ounces off her. Which isn't bad for an auto. Plus a couple of jars of hash fixins.

I've only done organic growing, so I don't have a lot to compare to. But I just love the simplicity of it. I don't have any experience with those products. All I've used are the base soil components (peat, Perlite and EWC) plus my own compost and dry amendments. Been recycling that for a couple of runs now. They get water and the occasional compost tea. That's it.

Oh, been adding some coconut water to the water jug every now and then. And will introduce aloe juice this run.

Got a few pics of the teenagers.  Pulled them all out today to adjust my LST'ing and give them all a good spray of ACT that's been brewing for a couple of days.  I also used that opportunity to get to the timer and flip to 12/12.  Today marks 54 days from planting.  How do they look?

First we have White Rhino 3.  This was the last one transplanted and is probably only 45 days old.  I'm also not sure of the sex on this one.  You can tell it hasn't been re-vegged when you compare it to the other one below.

    WR3-54-1.jpg   WR3-54-2.jpg

And one of it all sexy and wet.
    WR3-54-3.jpg

Here's the WR2.  It is a known female and re-vegged.  Look how tight and bushy she is!

    TS #4  She's really a beast.
    TS4-54-1.jpg

And a couple of the Jack Herer.  She is also massively compact.  Do these look abnormal from the re-vegging?  Do I need to let them go longer?
