Techeads Indoor Newbie Grow Journal

  1. Hi all, I actually started growing about a month ago. I'm currently using a grow box, mylar lined, with in/out air system with custom charcoal filters, and 120 watt (900 lumens) bulbs x 3. For my first grow, I bought 3 Afghan Skunk feminized, germinated, and am about 60+ days in. I started using organic Miracle Grow, recently transplanted 2 into FoxFarms Happy Frog. I've kept a logbook, so let me go over some dates. Began germination, 5/23, planted 5/27, all 3 visible above soul 6/1, 6/19 I showed my first signs of nute burn and flushed, 6/26 my largest plant was 6" tall, 6/27 re-potted #2 & 3 in Fox Farms Happy Frog, #1 was showing increased water consumption. I also tilled in about an inch of Fox Farms into #1, also that day I accidentally ripped part of the root ball off #2, which immediately fell over, I staked it back up, 7/1 #1 stood at 9" high, #2 was standing on its own again and had resumed growth, #3 was doing well, and today, where I have 2 roughly 5" plants that are still recovering but doing well and stand around 5" each, and a humongous plant over 9" tall with multiple branches/leaves, and looking good! So, I'm uploading some pictures, obviously the biggest is #1, the smaller with 2 sets of larger leaves is #3, and the one with yellowing lower leaves is #2, and the one I messed its roots up.
So, any feedback would be appreciated. My current concerns are the coloration on #2 & 3, and I'm not 100% when I should start flowering #1. I don't see any pistils yet, but maybe someone can give me an idea based on where I stand now. Also, keep an eye on this journal! I have a giant chifforobe I'm getting ready to convert into a bigger secondary space, with multiple lighting systems, to grow some Berry Ryder Auto in!

  3. Nothing to worry about right now they look good... You may want to LST the tall one and you could flip the tall one now depending on your grow cab size... didn't see that in your details. If you don't do any training then 9" turns into 2'.

Since the other 2 are behind I would do a FIM on the tall one and then bend her over and let all that underbrush grow up.

  4. Thanks Johnny! Like I said I'm a newbie, not 100% what you mean by LST or FIM but I'm sure I can research and find out. Will be updating in a day or 2, I think I see pistils on #1!

  5. Oh, my grow cab is kinda small BTW, 32" tall by about 16" wide. I'm working on a much bigger cab made out of a chifforobe, spent half the day covering the inside in mylar, till I ran out of glue lol its about 5 foot tall by 3 foot wide.

  6. Hi guys, Happy 4th of July! I'm going to a party tonight, so I thought I'd put up an update. I got in some Advanced Nutrients B-52 today, started foliating a very weak solution. Earlier today, I measured #1, she was up to 10"! However, after doing some research, I decided to do a little bending, so I bent her to about a 45 angle, then I took a rubber band, stuck a pushpin through it, and hung it on a sturdy branch. So here she is before & after. She is getting light, so I will probably water tonight before I leave. I have a 1/4 strengthish 3 liters mixed up with Grow & Micro. As for #2 &3, they both appear to be recovering & taking to the new soil nicely! I don't see any mute burn ( unless you can the lower spots on 3, and the lower yellow on 2, but all the new growth looks healthy, and lots of leaves have sprung up where I had to trim dead stuff during the transplant process. Also, I spent most of yesterday finishing the mylar in the chifforobe. That was pretty tough by myself lol but 2 tubes of superglue and 6 sticks of Elmer's later...The staples had come out of the back, so i had to get it re-attached first. I also got out my corner fan (it literally is a corner lol), cut some filter for it, and got it set up. Just got to wait for a few more components to arrive and that thing is ready! I'm going to bed, updates to come!

  7. Oh, I forgot to mention, found out 8 weeks is flowering time for this one, so I was worried for nothing. 4 more weeks, at least!

  8. Yep, I'm really just using 8 weeks as a baseline. I read that the longer you beg, the better the result will be! Thanks!

    Rgh veg not beg lol

  9. Looks good, I would't leave it too much longer till you switch to flowering.
My plant was just over 12" before I switched and its now in final week of flowering at roughly 25" high.

But you may need to switch to your other cab at some point during your flowering stage.
Keep on on on the plants first 2 weeks of flowering, even through fem seeds sometimes they can be male.
But you usually see pistils within 2 weeks of flowering, by the 3rd week things usually stepup a level grow wise.

Any idea what your gonna feed them?

  10. I've got Advanced Nutrients Bloom. I've got 3 liters mixed up and ready. Nice avatar btw, gosh!

  11. Right now I'm training it so that the lower sites can develop a bit more. I've got CFLs, power strips and fans on the way for my big cab, should be up and running sometime next week. Want to make sure I've got proper ventilation, the breeze in cab one really had a profound effect, and cab 2 is big. #1 will probably go into cab 2, so that 2 & 3 can spread out, its getting crowded!

  12. Hey everyone! Thought I'd post a little end of week update here. So, I bent #1 and had her tied down for several days. She appears to have taken to it quite well; she was bending herself above the tie-down towards the light later THAT DAY. Her stem at the bend has fattened up about half an inch to support herself. She did have some yellow leaves around the base, but they've been headed that way quite a while, and new growth seems to be healthy, and shows no slow down (outside of the initial bend slowdown). Last night I flushed her, and fed her a mix of grow, micro, bloom, and b-52. She loved it, because the soil is already feeling light, so she's obviously sucking water at a rapid rate. It also bears mentioning her roots are now poking above the soil as well as below, so I covered them with a little soil. Maximum efficiency, but I sure wish I had cab 2 up to move her. Soon though! Anyways, #2 is showing minor nitrogen deficiency (I think). Minor clawing and small burnt serrated edges, so I flushed her too, and fed her a mild solution of everything I gave to #1. New growth looks good, so just have to wait & see. #3 is still extremely heavy, so I've done nothing to her. She has one leaf that's partially brown spotted, but its been that way a long time & hasn't gotten worse or showed up anywhere else, so I'm thinking that was a foliate burn. New growth looks great. Both #2 & 3 seem to be catching momentum, and are now about 7" high. Here's pictures, and as always, any feedback is welcome! Oh, I forgot to mention in my last post that I have "Bud Candy" for the flowering stage as well, which is basically magnesium. All this nutrient stuff and converting mls has been rough, I think I'll use Dyna Grow once this stuff is used up lol unless someone has some easy way to figure out these Advanced Nutrients. Well, see you next update, I will probably post after Wednesday.

  13. My Android app keeps force quitting, so I'm just posting pics for now. I'll get into details soon. I'm sure you get the idea lol

  14. App keeps force quitting, getting very frustrating to write updates, so I will now write posts on a plant by plant basis. #1 was recently repotted into a 2 gallon smartpot on the 10th. I fed her in the old pot, then watered in the new pot, with the idea the diluted nutrients from the original rootball would alleviate shock. It seems to have worked, as #1 is healthy and showed female preflowers the next day! Photoperiod was changed to 12/12 that day, with 2700k CFLs and the full spectrum led. Cab 2 is running hot at 90 F when lights are on, looks like I will be investing in an evaporative cooler next week.

  15. As for #'s 2 & 3, they are gathering speed after their repotting, and now stand about 8" tall each. The only problem is, I'm afraid they're males, and having a hard time sexing them. If they are males, I'll have to junk them; can't risk pollination of #1. Any ideas?

  16. Also, I began germination of 4 Berry Ryder Auto seeds, and today, 3 of the 4 have sprouted, and been placed in clear cups with holes cut via exactoknife, to allow root monitoring. They reside, as you can see, in cab 1, since cab 2 is dedicated to flowering #1 right now.

  17. Hey everyone! I haven't updated for a while, I've just been super busy lately. As for my garden though, I ended up putting all 3 Afghan Kushes into my big cab, and they've all been on 2700k x 6 plus a red/blue led for about a week. Heat has been a problem, I usually read 90-91 after the lights have been on a couple hours. I removed the led last night, and I'm going to get a jab saw and cut another vent, and enlarge the current vent. I've been watering about every 3 days. It seems root propagation has been successful, as the rate of water use begins to increase. As you can see, they are all getting pretty big, even the one with the bend. As you can see, the Berry Ryder's are growing fast, and root propagation is looking good, thanks to the clear cups! The soil in the cups was layers of fox farms and miracle grow organic. Had to use the miracle grow somehow lol I've got special soil I'm amending with garden lime, rock dust, etc, try and avoid all the nitrogen problems I've had. That's it for now, comments suggestions always welcomed!
