I have started the seeds, they are both nestled safely in the Rapid Rooters. They are Critical and Northern Lights x Chronic. Until they are ready they will stay cozy under just the 3 T5s then the 250w Hortalux HPS gets fired up with the LED. On the top of the cabinet is all the nutes and supplies that I gained from the PO. In Rapid Rooters on 6/27/14
I'm very excited, both seeds popped and there is signs of life on 6/30/14. I will get more pics when I get home on Thursday. With this excitement there is a bit of apprehension. I had way too much free time last night and started doing some research and found that the soil that I am planning on using may not be what I was led to believe it was. It is Vermisoil that I added EWC, Excelerite and Mykos to. I am posting in the organics section about this.
The adventures of Dino & Chronic, My wife kept an eye on the girls this week and named them Dino & Chronic. Everything is looking good so far. This is Chronic (Northern Lights x Chronic) This is Dino (DNA Critical) I put them in solo cups with 100% Vermisoil some EWC top dress, switched to the LED and just the 2 side T5's. The 3 T5's all at once generated a lot of heat, temps were running around 85f - 87f . I plan on going ahead and putting one of the T5's in the lower chamber to start getting it ready to be used as it was intended.
I got my Damper and wye fitting today and got them installed. So far it seems like it will work. Next is to get a water heater blanket and fiberglass wrap for the dryer hose to help with heat when the dryer is in use. There is a damper in the lower leg of the wye fitting that has a neoprene gasket and is spring assisted so that the box air can not get sent back into the house that way.
I hope everybody came out on this side of the 4th weekend well rested, and enjoyed time with what's important to them. Small update I tried a small run of the 250w HPS and after just 15 minutes the temp soared to 90f with the exhaust fan on 100% and 78f for an ambient temp and 86f outdoor temp. So in order to run this during flower I will have to come up with a cool tube/cooling solution to this. My thoughts right now are to simply go with a higher wattage LED to get the light amount I want. I am also thinking a swamp cooler whether it be DIY or a store bought. Some pics for the update. Chronic... And Dino.... I also took the time to install the Net I will be using for the SCROG, or would I call it SNOG, since I'm using a Net? This pic was taken after the 250w was test run and was still dropping in temps. I have been running a consistent 79f with lights on and 76f at lights out with 2 T5s and the LED. On a completely different subject, I'm really bummed that I cracked my modded Graffix that you can see in the background of the pics. It has been a great piece for me and I will try to get a fix to it but I'm not holding my hit for its resurrection. Here are some more pics from lights out today of Chronic. And Dino. And the group shot on their 1 week birthday. Time to work on the boat for a bit. Have a good one.
They have gotten to day 8 and are coming along beautifully I think. Chronic, And Dino, And the group photos, Off to make the Doughnuts...
I just got home to the girls and it is now day 12. The wife did an awesome job of babysitting this week and I honestly think she is getting more excited about this grow than I am even though she doesn't smoke yet(leaves more for me). We are going to have to leave the girls home alone for 6 days and I have a plan I will be implementing it tomorrow and will post pics and such then. Until then here is some plant porn.... Chronic is looking very good.... Dino is slightly smaller but looks just as good... And a couple group shots.... Have a good weekend
Nice!!! They are coming along. Cant wait to see what your plan is because in about a month I will be leaving for about 4 or 5 days. So ive been trying to think of something to water it. Lights will be ok on a timer but still unsure of water situation. But anyway they both look really good and seem to be growing quickly
Snoop, I was having some issues with low RH so on a really high thought I soaked the wood chips in H2O and set them around the plants. My thoughts at the time were that it was a good temp fix. My RH has come up considerably and no worries there since, so I just haven't bothered to take it off. My solution for my days away with no supervision came together well I think. I set it up today just to get an idea of how it is going to work before I leave. I used 2 3"x2" PVC reducers with just a 2.5" piece of 2" PVC pipe to set the level of H2O in the reservoir. So we shall see how this works. I think 4L should be plenty to get through 6 days. Everything else will just depend on the timer. Just a few shots of the girls. Chronic.... And Dino.... When I was putting together the watering rig, I noticed that the girls have roots that have made it to the seep holes and are direct tapping into the perilite. This gives me small concern that I should be thinking about transplanting into my Smartpots when I get back next week. I question this because it has only been roughly 2 weeks that they have been in the solo cups and most research I have done indicates that others make it any where from 3-6 weeks in solos. Am I getting too fidget fingered and should I leave them be for a couple more weeks, or would transplanting next week be a good idea? Bueller? Bueller?
Ah.. Nice and crafty, I like what you have going on. I could see wet chips working like that. Those babys may as well get out of those cups. the plants look nice.
Thanks, Everything I have pretty much educated myself by reading and re-reading posts from pros like yourself. I have learned so much from sources that will never know how helpful they have been to noobs like me.
Day 22 Huge milestone, one week on autopilot and we have success I was very apprehensive about leaving the girls, but had no choice. Granted there is some cleaning up to do, but all in all it worked out well. There is a bit of turning up on the leaves and one burnt tip one of Chronics leaves but both plants look and are starting to smell healthy I've got some ideas to improve on this system such as a larger reservoir since the 4L of water were used up and I'm not sure when it ran out but the perilite was still damp. The perilite did grow a considerable amount of algae, but not so much that when I cover it with some weedblock it wont go away. On to the pics.... Chronic Dino Group shot Well it was a long day and I'm due to sit and get some relaxation . Then work for the girls in the morning. Have a Good One,
Here we are at day 25 I got the girls transplanted into the Smartpots and placed on the full size SIP tub. Everything is going well so far and the girls look very healthy. With the large res in the cabinet the temps have dropped 4-5 degrees average so I am sparking up all 3 T5s with the LED. With all the lights and at the warmest point of day time the max temp only gets to 81 degrees. On to the pics.... Chronic Dino And the group shot Have a good one.
Wow looking really good! Better than mine and mine are older haha. I ran into problems so I've been in catchup mode. Lol. But all is well now and back on track. You... Just keep doing what your doing cuz it's working well. I think after this run I'll be upgrading my lights. When do you plan on turning light cycle to push flower?
DD, Thanks, I am really impressed with how well they are doing so far. Bummer about the setback for yours. Just a little more education and skill building. I went ahead and topped both. I will leave the Critical with just the one topping and top the Northern LightsxChronic 1 or 2 more times which will slow down the growth considerably and I plan on going 12/12 when they get 5"-7" more in height. So far they are growing very compact and look like they are going to put on a really nice show. My wife just Snapchatted me a couple shots cause she said that Critical is getting some yellowing on one of the bottom leaves. It didn't look terrible and with it being only one leaf I'm not going to panic. I am kinda thinking it might be related to just having been transplanted. Plus since I'm several hours from them I have no choice but to LITFA.
Oh yea prob just some damage from that. Ride it out. I had same problem. Just some tlc and time. Will be good. Still too scared to top (with the stress it's already had). But will be applying LST starting today. But like I said keep doing what your doing. Defiantly some lookers there!
DD, Thanks, yeah I kinda figured the transplant would do that so that is why I did it before I left that way I couldn't get in there in panic mode and jack everything up. I also knew it would take a minute before the roots got into SIP mode, and once they get there all the worrys should go away. Sent from my XT1080 using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Howdy, Here I am at day 27. I am truly amazed at the results so far and I am not sure I can stop spending time just staring at the girls. They have grown so much and appear to be thriving in their environment. There were a couple of yellowed leaves from this past week but those were very isolated and I attribute them to the transplant last weekend. I topped both plants after the transplant last weekend as well and Dino(DNA Critical) seemed to do much better with this than Chronic(Northern Lights x Chronic). Dino's tops grew in very fast and are more than twice the size of Chronic's. On to the pics... Chronic Dino Group shots, one that my wife just had to bomb Time for me to enjoy a little bubbler of Sour OG Kush, Have a good one. Have a good
