You can actually retrain yourself with quite a bit of dedication. OP, I would recommend you give this book a read: All about the subject. Quite optimistic in the end. It is in the same vein of McLuhan's semiotic analyses, and bares striking resemblences to Postman's more recent critiques (an academic that is very close to my heart my brain).

I am new to these forums, but I don't think a forum such as this could be compared to facebook. At least on here you can choose to read posts that seem interesting and may be something you could actually provide feedback on, while facebook you are forced to see the retardation of your facebook freinds appear constantly in your newsfeed.
Facebook and GC are two totally different things. For one, it's more anonymous here than on Facebook. Obviously, on Facebook, people know who you are. On here, not unless you PM someone and share info about yourself and start friendships that way. Anyway, I feel true connections with people on GC because being anonymous means you can open up more about issues than Facebook. Also, you don't see people here trying to post sexy pics and glorifying themselves.
i usually leave it up in the background in case someone messages me but i have found myself actually posting stuff less and less. i would probably deactivate it but i use it to promote my music and network with people.
