I'm not sure if this is a well known thing or not, but i just thought of this and it worked really well! Supplies needed: - regular water bottle - a small socket - a cheap pen And of course a cup and water but that is pretty self explanatory. So really all you need to do is: 1. Gut the pen so it is just a tube 2. Either by melting the pen, or hammering the socket, attach the socket onto the tube. (Mine is a little sloppy but you get the idea) 3. Now cut a hole in the cap of the bottle and snuggly fit the socket and pen into the hole From here on you just proceed to make a gravity bong how you normally would. I wanna say that the pen tube, being in the water, will allow the smoke to pass through the water while you're pulling on the GB. Haven't tried it myself but it seems like that's the way it would work.

A friend of mine did something similar, however he used some sort of rubber tube and it seemed to work. The GBs were smoother than normal, at the very least. I would stay away from using a pen in this way though; the bottom of that socket gets hot enough to burn your hand, so it's definitely not safe to have it in direct contact with plastic like that.
A downstem like that wont fully filter all the smoke unless you have a small bottle as the chamber. It would be better to make an ashcatcher or bubbler in between the bowl and chamber. You can make one out of a pill bottle, or any other small container. Filters all the smoke before filling the chamber, plus it keeps the suction water clean.
Oh damn that's actually really cool I'm defiantly trying this the next time I make something like this! At first I thought it was stupid but now I think it's damn innovative maybe because I'm high after a 4 day t break(if you can even call it that)

I agree metal would be better or glass obviously would be first. I have a stemless bong though so no downstem for me. But as long as you dont use this all that often you should be good
