Organic Soil Mix Critique

  1. Hey yall, looking for some feedback on the soil recipe i will be using this year. This is what i have in my head so far:

    Per 1 cubic foot:

5 parts peat moss - source: big box, no lime added
3 parts perlite - source: local supply store
2 parts 50/50 ewc/compost manure - ewc: wiggle worm, compost: black cow

    supplements/additives:

1 cup garden lime, pulverized - source:big box no name brand
1 cup kelp meal - espoma
1.5 cups org. fert - blend of espoma plant tone and tomato tone

    mineral amendment:

.5 cup azomite - source: local supply store

Basically i just need a double check to make sure im not overlooking anything. This mix is kind of a middle route between lc's soilless mix and a mix posted here by ganja girl. I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible while keeping cost low, as i need to mix a larger quantity. Things i have been going back and forth on are my proportion of ewc, its expensive but i dont want to skimp. One guide suggests no black cow and only ewc but this isnt financially feasible for me. Should i put in some mushroom compost or chicken poo instead?

Also, what can i use in place of azomite? Also, is the quanity correct? i do not have a good source for granite rock dust on hte cheap but ive heard that green sand will also work. Can i get away with a limited amount of azomite per batch and still be beneficial?

Finally, which espoma product would be the best dry fert? I plan on primarily flowering in this mix so i was thinking tomato due to low N content?

Any input is much appreciated!! I've been a long time reader and lurker on this site, i had an old username but lost access to the email account so signed back up. Thanks dudes and dudettes!!!

  2. Hey west coast, thanks for the reply.

Is wiggle worm that bad? i have checked cl and there is none in my area. There is one other seller i need check to see what brand ewc they have. I dont believe alfalfa meal is available but i will look again. How would you add it in?

Thanks for the link, its one of the guides ive been using.

  3. Wiggle worm is not a bad product, there is just better EWC out there. But it's better to use any EWC than none. And as far as alfalfa meal, I add 1 cup per 1 cf.
