I've read of doing a 36 hour total darkness before harvesting. My question is what if i put it in a room that has windows covered wit just a dark curtain, but is not complete darkness, would it still work to use up chlorophyll since most of the light is being deprived?
supposedly it shocks the plant into thinking its got to hurry and finish, increasing trichome production, and extra weight put on by it trying to be pollinated by a male before the end of the life cycle. Mainly i read since photosynthesis cannot occur unwanted chlorophyll leaves the buds... ive never done it so im curious.
Aslong as the small amount of light that hits it is not direct sun rays, the slight brightness wont make any difference Im not a plant expert but I know that light that seeps through a curtain has been heavily dispersed already so while its visible to us it provides zero benefit to the plant
Double up the curtains. Use some cheap black non-fitted bed sheets or blankets. It's only for 36 hours, who cares if it's tacky.
Ill also be doing 36 hours of darkness ina few weeks time,would you care to give some feedback and if it actually makes a difference? inspect it before and after and see if you noticed any acceleration in trich development
i will if i do try it.. its almost ripe enough.. leaves starting to yellow/ cola stems hollowing, seem to be thick nugs. im not so sure if i want to havest the whole plant at once, altho the 2 tops and 2 lateral colas are about the same ripeness down to the stalk, there are some smaller lateral colas on the bottom which wouldnt be fully ready for harvest when the top most are, and there's quite a bit of herb on the bottoms..
I like doing the dark period, just make sure you keep ventilation on and circulation going inside the tent. No reason to get mold now. As far as whole harvest or not, can't go to wrong either way. Chop your main colas now and have no dark period for them, but let your other buds get more light and grow more potent/large... or put it all into dark and just hope the only difference between your top and bottom nugs are how couch-locked or head high they make you. I personally like that way so I have a slight variety in the weed I am smoking. If you have popcorn nugs just make some butter. Using those nugs instead of trim for butter will still do you wonders.
yes i did lose a good gram to mold when it rain for a week straight, was barely halfway through its flower cycle, cleaned it up nice and fast, never spread, just beat it lol .... they are good colas down low on that plant, its not just those popcorn nugs, i should have cleaned those off to begin with, but anywyas im thinking of doing what you said.. "Chop your main colas now and have no dark period for them, but let your other buds get more light and grow more potent/large..." and dark period the last of the ripened colas. that way i'll have a before and after dark period off the same plant. great idea.
I do this every harvest and im putting one into its dark period tonight ill post pics here shortly...
Ill update Wednesday/Thursday when I check her trichomes again... for harvest and ill snap the pic before I do anything and you'll see they are fuller promise....
I love this dark cycle it makes your girls trichomes explode cant tell you why but I can show you it works
