For All The Boys

  1. I'm an absolute beginner.  Purchased seeds from a bank.  Germinated five, all five went well and grew out for a week under a fluorescent tube, then I moved them under 1000W of LED says the manufacturer (although actual power consumption I measured with a watt meter is about 600W).

Anyway, the plants are beautiful and very healthy looking.  They've been under 18/6 with the LEDs for about four weeks and have started to produce lots of pre-flowers.  The problem is that from everything I've read, the pre-flowers appear to all be male.

All five plants look exactly like this attached photo.

Is this truly male for sure?

Could I be any more unlucky?

Is there any point of continuing with these and putting them into 12/12?  or just throw them out?

  2. :((( sorry to say thats a male, do they all look like that? are there some with little white hairs growing out? more pictures the better. and no you cant do much with males sorry bud :(

  3. Oh that sucks!!!   Yeah, all five of them look like that.  I was hoping that maybe by some off-chance I was just seeing pre-flowers and that sex couldn't be determined yet because it was still in vegetative mode.

These are over a month in and over a foot tall with tons of fan leaves... can they at least be used for hash or cannabutter?  Or do they need to be at 12/12 before making enough THC to make that worthwhile?

  4. Pick your favorite, and freeze a bunch of his pollen. When you have females in the future, you can make seeds.

I have heard of people using males to make honey oil, but I dont know the details.

Yeah you can def make hash out of them... Breeders don't keep males just for their growing characteristics they also keep them based on potency. Most people don't want males in their ops so have never grown them out and done anything with them.

EDIT - Were they supposed to photoperiod plants and what breeder did they come from? Sounds like they were autos because those flowers are pretty well developed.

They aren't pre-flowers, they are proper flowers, and yeah are definitely male. Pre-flowers are single calaxes that grow at the nodes while the plants are still in veg.

Getting 5 males from 5 seeds is a 1 in a 32 chance, that is unbelievably slim. It may be worth putting a photo up of each of the others.

As they are flowering on 18/6 they must be auto flowerers so changing to 12/12 won't do anything.
All the males I have grown haven't produced trichomes so making hash from them just isn't going to be possible

  7. They are not supposed to be auto-flowering.

I bought them from Attitude Seedbank.  They are the "De Sjamaan Purple Widow" strain, which is supposed to be photo period.

I think it unlikely that all 5 were male.  that's why I asked.  But weirder things have happened.  Even if it's only a 5% chance that all five would be male, 5% does happen sometimes.

  8. It is weird they are actual flowers without going into the flowering 12/12 cycle.  And that the plants looked great, definitely were getting enough light.  The seedbank must have given me the wrong seeds by mistake and gave me auto-flower ones.  And I got unlucky and got all males.  Horrible, just horrible for a first attempt!  Oh well, back to my local dispensary it is!

I have vaped male flowers and they do in fact contain THC so yes you absolutely can make hash and there are lots of people that do it.

Just Google it and you will see many instances. Not sure who declares that you can't do anything with a male is the best answer but whoever it is has never partaken of one.

All I said was none of my males have ever had trichomes. Hash is just a collection of trichomes. How can you make hash without them?

  11.

Were the seeds in the original breeders packaging? I'm still having trouble believing all 5 are males, I mean is 1 in 32 chance of happening, it's as good as impossible. Could you put up a photo of each plant? surely one of them must be female?

  12. They all had the clusters of flowers on stems just like the original photo, so I've destroyed them all.  I don't have any doubt left that they were male.

The packaging I received wasn't in an original breeder's packaging, it was in a small clear zip bag with a computer printed white label identifying the breeder and strain.  The seedbank through in an extra single-seed of a fem seed in another bag and the bags looked the same, so they must have repackaged the original breeder's packaging.

I guess I have one seed that is sure to be a girl!

  13. Jeez man, that sucks :( 5 out of 5 male, that is some god damn shitty luck.
