280W Cfl Grow. 7 Weeks Old. Flowering Day 1. Leaves Are Curling. Help

Discussion in 'Micro Grows' started by ninetiethcoma, Jun 20, 2014.

  1. (I have this same post in the main grow forum with my friends pictures.) I have a friend who started a cfl micro grow with 2 plants roughly 2 months ago. He started flowering them today. Hes been watering with 6.6-7.3ph water and using Osmocote pellets that he crushes to speed up their activation. Osmocote has basically a 3/1/2 NPK ratio. The two plants are right at 13 inches tall, one being topped and the other supercropped.

    QUESTIONS--------

    1. The leaves are starting to "curl" or "canoe" upwards and my friend is wondering why.

    2. He also wants to know whether he should add nutrients during flowering and if so what is the ideal NPK.
\n3. Assuming they are indica, when my friend flowers them how fast will they stretch?

A good basic rule of thumb is that if the leaves curl downward, it's an issue with the soil. If leaves curl upward, it's an issue with the environment. Sound like temps are too hot and leaves are curling upward, they do this to reduce surface area that is absobing light.

..So either get more/better airflow or move the plants back an inch or 2 from the lights. Or cool off the entire room the plants are in.

I can't really advise on nutes without knowing what the medium is. Usually early flower or veg you want a higher N ratio...like a 2-1-1 and during flower you'll want high P and K ..like a 1-2-2 or 0-2-2 . You might have to experiment a little to see what the plant needs. Just start out really light with nutes so you don't burn the plants.

Also if growing under cfl don't let them get any taller...CFL will not produce viable buds further then about 10 inches from the light...everything further will just be fluff unless you're running 100's of watts of cfl.

In flower, a basic indica will stretch about 15-20 days. You'll see a burst of stretch the first few days...just make sure to keep tying down branches and keep your canopy flat and all at the same level/distance from the light. One the buds begin to 'crown' and you see the small clusters of hairs start to form...that's a good sign that stretch is basically over...you might get another inch or 2 of bud swell though.  You can expect a plant to increse in height by about 2x or 3x during the stretch...but this is all very dependant on the exact health and size of the plant or branches.  :)

*I know you said it's your friend's.. but it's easier for me to just say 'you'  :p
