Breaking News: New York State Finally Getting Medical Marijuana

Discussion in 'Marijuana News' started by garrison68, Jun 20, 2014.

  1. Willing to bet your life on that.
    No thanks.

  2.
CA is pretty loose and vague.

  3.
let's not blow things out of proportion.
we were talking about the "norm" for mmj bills. i disagree with you because, for example, florida's "amendment 2" is nothing like NY's bill, which you say is now "the norm".

and exactly to your point while flordia just passed a semi-shitty cbd only bill, they are about to vote on a much broader bill which is going to have more support and traction because of the previously passed cbd bill.

just because NY's law is not as liberal as the one in CA, it doesn't mean that's the end of story... bills get amended and reformed by public vote.

  5. So yes. You bet your ass they will list what are qualifying conditions and they won't just leave it up to the Florida dr to perscribe. .
We already seen how that worked for the oxy epidemic in fl.

  6. So you're saying all the people of NY need to do is put an initiative on the ballot to change the law?

As far as the norm for the medical laws these days, one thing is pretty clear and it's warned about in the paragraph below:

"Voter initiatives and ballot propositions are a double-edged sword.  On the one hand, they allow voters to implement reforms that lawmakers are unwilling or hesitant to support out of narrow self-interest or political cowardice, ex. independent redistricting reform or rational reform of drug laws.  On the other hand, however, the initiative process can be hijacked against the public interest since all it requires is that one have enough money to gather signatures and wage an aggressive media advertising campaign in favor of a given measure."

That list is not in the law. It is not in SB420 or Prop 215. And I quoted the actual law, twice in this thread. It lists a couple ailments, followed by: "any other illness for which marijuana provides relief.

I googled what you posted and that is just a list from a doctor's office in Seattle, Washington. Not California.

  8. Keep it comin!

I can experience the entire metamorphosis of my philosophical ideations throughout the periods of my life by reading this single thread.

First, I'm encouraged the wheels of progress as it pertains to cannabis reform continue to move in a positive direction despite the lingering and hanging-on of archaic, unsubstantiated propaganda and its unenlightened supporters.

Secondly, I feel a sense of satisfaction and comraderie in being a part of it's change, and learning a good deal in the process.

Lastly, I feel a strong need to temper my enthusiasm as there are so many who have a voice (regardless of how feint it may be) who read the first paragraph of a 2 page article and jump to conclusions thinking they're helping. I'll go so far as to say there are a few right here in this thread.

If we can't be public implements for positive change (some of us can't because of our jobs, family, etc,) and try to spread scientific facts and fact-related truths, then please, PLEASE, at the very least educate yourselves. When it comes to cannabis-related progress, both medical and legislative, it would do well for more folks to realize ignorance is NOT bliss and knowing what you're talking about adds less creedence to an argument than the damage an ignorant stance or statement can cause.

    peace
