Hydroponic using organic fertilizer

Discussion in 'Advanced Growing Techniques' started by fr_dr, Jan 6, 2007.

  1. Is it possible to grow in a hydroponic system (something like a bubble bucket) using only organic/natural fertilizer? Is it possible to dissolve nutrients like bloodmeal, bonemeal, seaweed, fish emultion in water so it can be used in a hydroponic system without blocking the water pomp? I mean, does anyone ever did it succefuly?

  2. Let see ...
Dried Blood, bone meal,= Rotting flesh scent
Seaweed,Fish Emulsion= Rotting Ocean fish scent
and then blow bubbles up thru it ......I don't think that would be a good idea in the house :smoking:

  3. You have a good point there, i didn't even think about the smell that would come from the bubble.:smoking:

But i'm still asking my question, is it possible to grow hydroponic using only organic fertilizer, if the smell is not a problem??
I prefer that my grow room smell a little bad and to have some 100% naturally grown buds than that my room smell chemical fertilizer when i smoked.

So does someone ever did it or is there any other alternative then chimical fertilizer when it come to hydroponic?

  4. check out this web site ahlgrows.com click the link that says free stuff and they have a pdf that has everything you need to know to grow organic hydro

  5. foxfarm makes liquid ferts that are either organic or mostly organic, i suggest getting the 3 pack (grow big, big bloom, tiger bloom) and use all 3 following the foxfarm schedule for hydro. http://foxfarmfertilizer.com/HydroSystems_FF_Feed.pdf theres the schedule if u decide to use foxfarm.

  6. Yes, it is possible, and I am currently doing it right now. It's working just fine. I am actually using a DWC bucket with a 4 gallon res, and I'm lovin it. Good luck.

P.S. I am using Botanicare Pro Grow and Bloom. They're both organic.

  7. Botinacare products looks fine, they are 100% organics, just what i was looking for:cool:. But they say on the website "PURE BLEND ™ is best used as a supplement to standard fertilizer or hydroponic nutrient formulations." so i was thinking do you use it alone or in combination with another fertilizer?

I also heard somewhere that molasses can be added to organic nutrient solution during flowering stage because of all the sugar it contain, is that true? I'm thinking about putting a co2 generator in the room so any supplement i can add to the nutrient mix will be helpful. Any help will be appreciated...

    Edit:

Is it possible to use natural product (lets say like lemon juice) or manufactured organic product to PH up/down the nutrient solution?

And last thing for today, how much time a week/day do i need to completely/partially drain and the refill the bucket (in a bubbler system)?

  8. Of course its possible, however, your plant cannot use most of those things, go with the ph-up and down, its the best thing for controling your pH and the amount of non-organic nutes provide using it is so infintesimally small as not to matter.

First off,you don't partially drain your resevior, you drain it completely. As for time it takes, it all depends on your extraction method, are you pumping it or are you going to siphone it off using gravity. Lastly what the size of the drain line, It takes me 45-60 minutes to drain my system with a 3/8 line, when I'm in a hurry I use a 1 inch garden hose and can dump it in about 3 minutes. I have a 18 gal resevior, at dump time there is about 8-10 gals in there.

To fill its going to take another 30 minutes, you don't want to dump it in to fast. Lastly after filling you should observe your plants for atleast a 1/2 hour just to make sure you didn't F*CK-up. As long as nothing bad happens in the first 1/2 hour i.e. wilting, leaf twisting, leasons appearing on the leaves. You get my drift.

On a daily note you should check on your plants at least once a day and make any adjustments at that time, say any were from 5 minutes to 20. By the way and I say this to all new hydro growers so if you've procured a tds meter and ph meter ignore, otherwise, go get those immediately.

  9. er nice idea to add a recirc pump to ur res to keep the solution agitated - it goes off really fast - still water, warm temps = breeding ground for bacteria & mould.

organic ferts are basically processed animal & vegetable byproducts, fungi & supposedly beneficial bacteria.

rotting food & multiplying bacteria / fungi is not really good for ur plants imo.

madly fluctuating ph = first sign of going off, so get ready with the peroxide cos u'll need it.

i know it's a nice idea to use organics, but imo, even if manufacturer says it is made for hydro, in practice it isn't.
u'll get so many problems u'll scrap ur grow ;)
stick to chemo or go back to soil.

i use canna aqua vega & flores with vitalink silicone - i set my ph at changeout & that's it for the week (longer sometimes if im workin away)
Use a good ph stable feed & get ur ec sorted in ur head & u cant go wrong.
All this bollox about check ph every 5 mins is er, bollox.
If u have madly changing ph up & down, or extremes, u need to look at fungal infection of the roots.
hydrogen peroxide will sort that out.
if ur ph falls steadily ur ec / ppm is too high. U want it to climb by a couple of 10ths a day, indicating that the plant is using equal amounts of water & nutrients.
don't believe the hype about hydro being hard - it's fkin piss easy if u doing it right.

  10. bone meal fucking STINKS! i mix it into the top few inches of my soil as a booster and every time i water, PHEW!! smells like a rotten twat.

  11. I have had no problems with my Botanicare hydroponics nutrients. Even after the fact that they are 100% organic. Sure, it might take a little time to get it completely right, however the sweeter tasting buds and simply using all organic fertilizer is worth it. As for pH, just use pH up and down. It's not organic but it's no big deal imo. Molasses can be added during flowering stage as a "bud booster" but you can also find organic bud boosters. I change my res once a week, and check it about halfway thru the week, and top it off then.

  12. ph up = potassium hydroxide = not bio
ph down = phosphoric acid = not bio

are u sure these concentrated acids / alkalis are not destroying ur beneficial bacteria & fungi?

  13. I don't know but my plants sure are happy:) with it. P.S. I use an organic base nutes.

Really, think about it, 2 or 3 drops is all you use, 10 drops if your off alot per 10 gals.

  14. I was thinking about that too, i know its nothing in proportion compared to the nutrients, but why not go organic all the way . Does anyone know about an organic or non-chemical ph up/down?

One way to get rid of the smell, is just add some mollasses and the bacteria will do the rest in one to three days, It may be a good idea to put the plants after the stinky smell is gone, the bad smell just means there is nitrogen being released, thats what is stinking, is just valuable nitrogen escaping in form of gas and  polluting your air and waters.
But how could we prevent this from happening? if we could cristalize that excess of nitrogen to release it when the plant needs it, would that be just perfect? sounds too good to be true... well there is a magical cristal that will do this for us, its called Zeolite or alluminum Silicate, Zeolites would be the best possible additive to an organic hidroponic system as it will remove the nutrient peaks and provide more nutrient disponibility with more nutrient eficiency.
Zeolites will remove any smell literally in seconds..
You need food grade zeolite not cat litter, it needs to be finely grinded and cannot contain quartz or other stones in the cristal.

One last statement, is hard to believe, but has been proven over and over, ok so no mater what you do, or how you grow if you add at least %15 of zeolites in your media you will have noticeable bigger roots, healtier plants, greener leaves and bigger/more harvest.
