Anyone Have Experience With Tattoos?

Discussion in 'Tattoo, Piercings and Body Art' started by mightyliang, Jun 18, 2014.

  1. I plan on getting my first tattoo and it's going to be a half sleeve on my forearm. I know the pain depends on the tattoo artist and also your pain tolerance, but can someone give me an idea of how it might feel and did it hurt like shit for you? Also, do you have any tips before I head to my tattoo shop?

  2. For me it largely depends on where on the body the tatt is done. I've also got one on my forearm, the shading and colouring hurt like shit. Here in South Africa you can go to any pharmacy and get a local anastetic. But that sort of ruins the process for me,the pain is part of the experience.

  3. It hurts. But unless you're a puss, it is bearable. On the forearm, no sweat dude. Just feels like burning/searing/cutting pain.

  4. To me my tattos on my shoulders/biceps reminded me of having an annoying little shit constantly prodding fresh sun burn.
And make sure you have enough fluid and food in you before you start. Nothing worse than going pale and dizzy halfway through a tattoo.

  5. The pain's manageable.  It's not so much about the artist as where on your body you're getting the work done, although some artists have heavier hands than others.  Like Cheshire Cat said, eat something before, and maybe have a snack on you if it's going to be an extended session.  But don't take anything that'll thin out your blood before (anything from aspirin to alcohol) - you'll bleed more freely, and the finished work won't look as good.

Also, the first twenty minutes are so are the worst, until your endorphins really kick in.  For the first twenty, I'm pretty fidgety and annoyed with the process, but things calm down after that, and things settle down.

  6. Dont smoke before you go. Go in there with a clear head The time flies by quickly and the sitting is so worth it. Id get all my tats all over again. Make sure its something you want as well. All my tats have a reason or story behind them. I didnt just get one to get one.

  7. Fuck that. I get blazed as fuck an fall asleep. That is how the time flies when you are sleeping.
Op as long as you are doing it in a meaty spot it just kinda goes numb and you don't feeling but pricks and nicks here and there. I got my ribs done. That hurt more than shattering my femur just to put things into perspective.

  8. I have a few tattoo's myself now however I remember when I had my first tattoo I was really nervous as anyone would be I would expect but I stuck to my guns and had it done. I remember it feeling like a burning sensation as I was having it done but it wasn't so painful that I couldn't stand to have it done. It really depends as you say on your pain tolerance and also on where you have it done. I had my first one done on my inner wrist which many told me would cause me a lot of pain but I was quite surprised.

  9. I have sleeves and a back piece. It gets wild close to the arm pits and over bones.

Its like being scratched by a cat...... for hours.

Stay sober, by that dont drink. do a little herb.

@[member="Sgtstadanko707"] I sleep through mine too.

  10. When I graduated school we had to do a scav hunt and I was driving around why everyone did the challenges which sucked because they were all fucked and I had to be sober, and the challenge with the most points was to get a home job tattoo and since I was only able to do a few challenges that day I agreed to do it, me and my mate knew someone with a tattoo gun so we borrowed that, we had no idea what to get and the first thing I thought of was lets get the word cunt in another language and my mate randomly said Spanish So we tattooed each other, never used a tattoo gun before and wrote coño on each other's thighs it looks so fucked out and now that's my nickname and it's stuck... Yep my names cunt in Spanish

  11. I'm in the process of full sleeve. Every half inch of skin hurts differently. But overall it just kind of feels like an annoying/ painful scratch.

  12. forearm should be a cake walk unless you are terrible at enduring even the slightest amount of pain. in my opinion the hands feet and rib cage are the most painful places to be tattooed. any fleshy area will be much easier to sit through than a "boney" spot. my foot tattoo was by far the most painful work ive had to sit through. enjoy the process. the more painful it is, the better you will feel when its over

  13. Your forearm area isn't too bad. The hairy side won't hurt as much as the soft side. And it ysually hurts more towards your wrist. I highly recommend not getting a sleeve as your first tattoo. Multiple things can happen, you might not be able to take the pain and just not finish it, you might twitch and jump a lot, you might piss off the tattoo artist and ask for like 20 breaks and so on.

In my opinion, getting a tattoo isn't as painful as it is annoying. It kinda feels like a cat slowly scratching sunburn. Like you can out up with it, but it's annoying as hell.

But heed my advice. Do NOT get a sleeve. Start with something small.

  14. The cat scratching a sunburn comparison is on-point. Longer strokes and shading of larger areas don't hurt that bad. It's when they have to constantly pick up the gun and get a different spot that it gets bothersome. The pain tends to shoot towards your wrist and elbow when they get close. The elbow itself hurts like a bitch.

Like others said though, I wouldn't start with a half sleeve your first time. Piece one together at first and wait a while between each one to get used to it. Tattoos aren't something you wanna dive right into. Get your feet wet first.

  15. I got quarter sleeves done It  like a cat biting and bee's stinging me it was more nerves jumping funny as all hell

tattoo on my back and neck area and one on my chest

I got high tolerance to pain .

I never feel the one on my back neck area same with my chest

  16. as many others have said, dont go with something so big as a sleeve to start. also, i'd advise getting your first one in a place where you can hide it... i have tons of 'em, but they're pretty much not visible if i'm wearing long pants and a t shirt.

the arms arent bad at all. nothing compared to the sternum or the shin. armpit is no fun either.

what're you gonna get? you have a good artist to do the work? the last thing you want is a shitty looking/ visible tattoo...

  17. It hurts like shit, anyone saying it doesn't hurt is full of shit. It's a burning sensation. And, like everyone else said, don't get a half sleeve for your first tattoo, get smaller items and piece them in to your half sleeve.

    Best feeling ever.

  19. It hurts. And it bleeds a lot. You probably think you want to go 6 hours and get it all done at once! But that's too much. I can do three, tops. But some people can do more. I think the more you've been tattooed the longer you could go. I've been tattooed 6 or 7 times and I'm still at 3. 2.5 my favorite. LoL! You can't prepare anyone for it. It's emotions not words. :)
