A Possible Future

  1. I see an advance in science in the next twenty years. The answers to unlocking the DNA code will be completely solved. This will lead to the development of countless medical processes and medicine. In the five years following the development of medical technology will forge a path for a treatment that would allow someone to completely cure any disease. People could be cured of cancer or an athlete could have a rotator cuff repaired all on the genetic level. It would allow a quadriplegic to regain the ability to move. With a treatment someone could have an extra toe removed quickly and painlessly. I think that the technology could do a lot but it wouldn't be able to reverse the effects of aging. It could only repair you in the living state you're in i.e. if you elect to have the procedure done at the age of 29 the repairs would give you "just off the showroom floor" body. You would look 29 but your biological clock resets to 1. So when you turn 58 you will feel like your'e 29 again, unless you get more treatments before then.

With these advances I think science discovers the mysteries of the brain. The decoding of the brains operating system could eventually lead to the development of technology that can improve and repair a humans mind. Doctors could treat the brain like it was a hard drive; empty the trash bin, defrag the hard-drive, run anti-virus software, delete unused files, download software or information, etc. You could read a story without even opening a book or learn to drive a car without getting behind the wheel. This allowed doctors to repair developmental disabilities and eliminate psychological disfunction. They could even download ideas in your mind like empathy or selflessness or even bravery and machismo.

Humankind has found a way to make life better by eliminating pain and suffering. Humans will have to struggle with a wide variety of moral and ethical issues that arise with this technology.

  3. I'm really hoping they can perfect 3d printing organs. I have a uncle who lost his esophagus to smoking. He loves nature and is a biologist but now he has to carry around equipment to eat and breathe. They would be perfect for him and countless other people with health issues.

  5. Even if they could figure all this out in the next twenty years you really think it would ever come to the light of day. People with lots of money and people of high power sure but there is no long term profit in cures. And no way in he'll would big pharmaceutical ever allow their business shrink and die

  7. I just realized a flaw with concepts like learning how to drive without getting behind the wheel. Even though you may have the knowledge to drive you will not possess the muscle memory acquired from physically driving.
