Humidity Dome

  1. Will plastic food storage containers work as a humidity dome for seedlings?

If i put a large one over a small pot?

My last two seeds germinated but after I planted them never sprout, autoflowers and biobizz all mix soil dont really mix :(

So now I made my own soil with perlite and what not, and thought about adding a humidity dome since a lot of people are doing it.
I think its going to work but I'm asking to make sure because I dont want to waste another 7$ seed :/

    Thanks

  2. Those look very opaque and will block out a lot of light.  If you absolutely need a humidity dome then use a plastic pop bottle or something like that.  Cut the top off and turn upside down.

  3. Yeah they would work fine. I mean work as in helping to stop the soil drying out so fast. The dome has to be removed as soon as the seedlings break the surface. They need moving air straight away.

Try just dropping the seeds directly in to the soil. There is no point germinating with any other method if you are just going to put it in the soil anyway

  4. The seed already germinated in a cup(like 25 hours) and right now im about to plant it into a small pot.

And yes I only need the dome until the seedlings break through, thats my main goal at this point xD
So I guess ill be going with the food containers since she doesnt need that much light until they pop through.

  5. When I used a dome, I used a trader joes chocolate chip cookie container with small hole punched at top and bottom. For auto's, I never need a dome.

  6. Did you also keep the lights on until they broke through?

  7.
Alright so I raised the dome out of curiosity yesterday(because the dome is not completely transparent) and saw the shell above the ground yesterday, awesome.

I have 1x2700k CFL on all the time and a usb fan going 24/7. If i plug all CFLs in (2 x 6300k more), the tent its going to heat up too much(only 1 plant, small tent) and temperature is going to go over 90F. Right now its 77F(25C). If I plug in another bulb it goes to about 85F(29C).

This morning again I raised the dome to find out the shell was indeed stil above ground, but it looks like its lower than yesterday, kind of like its dying. Yesterday it was straight tall and now its crooked and short :(, or maybe its just me. I hope i didnt screw up.

Now that the shell is just above ground, should I take the dome off and turn on all lights or wait until the leaves show themselves?

Oh dear God Im a noob. Sorry

  8. I don't really understand. Can you take a photo? What wattage are your CFLs? Don't worry about the colour of them. If your plant has shown itself there is no need for a dome. If the seed shell is still on the plant you haven't dropped the seed deep enough

  9. When I plant a germinated autoflower seed, I run led lights 24/7 through the entire grow.

  10. each CFL are 42W, so 126W for 1 plant i hope its enough?
And what to do if the shell is still on the plant? Any way to fix it?
I saw on a website that sometimes the shell is still attached while the seedling goes upwards and it takes about 1-2 days for it to go away and for the leaves to appear.

I'll remove it from the dome right now.

I'll take a photo when I come back I need to help my parents move to a new place :/ I'll be back in a couple of hours.

Its basically a Black Box Silver 35x35x60(cm) tent with a usbfan plugged in through my HTC usb charger :D on the side of the tent and the lights hanging from the top bar.

Here is a 1-minute set up guide and if you skip to 0:34 you can see the hole on the side of the tent.
There is another hole on the right side and it is slightly lower than the one on the left, thast where I have my fan.

  11. Yeah for that size area that's a good amount of light. I had no idea they made tents that small. How much was it?

It's best to remove the shell but if not done correctly you can damage the plant. It may be worth using the dome for a day and spray the plant regularly to try and soften the shell. If it dries hard the plant may not be able to shake it off. If the shell is still soft it can usually be taken off relatively easily

  12. 3 days and I think its dead :(
I sprayed it 3-4 times a day then i put the humidity dome back after i spray it.
Now I tried to take it off with some tweezers and i saw the "root". It was like a 1cm tail lol

    3 seeds...0 success. Ridiculous.

1st seed i put it too deep i think, 2nd one..i dont know what the problem was, maybe the soil. the 3rd...i didnt put it deep enough. Great <_<
