Pax By Ploom Questions

Discussion in 'Vaporizers' started by User420420, Jun 9, 2014.

  1. I just bought my Pax and i have a few questions/concerns since this is my first vaporizer.

1)How bad does the Pax smell? during use does it smell a lot? would i be able to vape in my car and the next morning when my parents move my car would they be able to smell it?

    2) How bad does the pax smell after use? if i dump out the flowers once im done can i just throw it in my pocket and be able to walk past my parents without them noticing the smell? if i decide to leave the pax in my car overnight would they be able to smell it once they go into my car?

3)What is the high like from the Pax? ive never used a vaporizer before, only the common ways of doing it (pipes, bongs, joints etc.) Will the pax put me on my ass or will i be able to function and think properly?

Sorry if these are dumb questions, im new to the vaping world. thanks

  2. Hate to break it to you but the pax is one of the most, if not the most, smelly vapes on the market. I have no personal experience with this vape so I can't tell you the time span on the smell, but the high from a vape is always described as "cleaner" than when smoking.

I have a question.   If you have some questions and concerns in regards to the PAX, why wouldn't you seek this info out BEFORE the purchase rather than afterwards.

The questions you asked are not dumb at all, but what doesn't make any sense is "when" you asked them for you have now purchased one of the smelliest portable vaporizers on the market when one of the most important things to you is that you don't want it to smell.

ive done a lot of research on it but i just had a few follow up questions, im gonna use it regardless, my questions regard how i can/should use it. i think the wrong time to ask these questions would be after ive already used it and fucked myself over

and im only worried about the smell for 2 months until i go off to college

Hehe... just what @[member="lwien"] said. Really if those were your concerns you should have checked here first before you purchased. I'm a Pax owner, and the thing sits in my hutch as part of my collection. The only purpose is serves for me now (since I got the Firewood 2.1), is to compare it to my lovely wooden portable vape collection when others come over and have questions.

But let me address your questions:
    1. The Pax is the smelliest vape I personally have used. That means out of all the ones I have tried, that one stunk up my living room the most. My wife isn't an herb head like me but she doesn't mind that I do. All she asks is I don't do it in the house so I don't stink the place up. When I tried the Pax in the house, it stunk up the room after 2 hits. I was sent to the garage. Vapor isn't supposed to have too much of a residual smell, so they might smell it or they might not. The only thing you can do is test it out yourself. From my experience, the smell didn't linger in the garage as if I were toking off my bong. And, for what its worth, it didn't stink up my minivan when I used it a couple of times in there.\t
    2. The smell afterwards is still pretty strong. Once you pop off that oven cap you will smell it, and anyone within a couple of feet of you. If you dumped out the herb and popped it in your pocket, as long as its not turned on, your parents might not notice it. However, remember it is a stinky vape and itsn't exactly sealed up.\t
    3. Ahh, vape highs are different from when you smoke. The high is more heady. As far as knocking you on your ass, you won't be couch locked and not feel like moving, but you'll be able to function. Now you can vape a bunch and get a really nice thick heady high... but still it won't knock you on your ass. If you want that to happen, vape with the Pax on its highest temp and enjoy.
Again, the Pax smells more imo due to the fact that its oven isn't sealed. Yes, the magnet keeps it shut but thats it. Theres no gaskets or anything in place to make sure the vapor and stink go in one direction. I've tested this by heating up the Pax, and watching it fart out vapor if I tapped the oven lid, or just watching it seep out slightly (like a 'silent but deadly' fart).

So if being discrete is what you wanted to do, the Pax was a good choice as far as form factor. And it does hold a decent amount of herb so you don't have to pack it so often. But, thats really all it has as far as discreteness goes. I'd take my MFLB or Firewood over the Pax any day for being discrete.

You're right that asking after you been caught is probably not the right time to ask, but even IF you got caught, still coming here to ask us would have worked out either way.

Well, as much research that you did on the Pax, and you're basically going to use it (I know you just dropped some decent coin on that device so might as well get some use out of it yeah?), I guess knowing how you should use it would be nice. While there are people on here that love the Pax and swear by it, you'll find that this forums has a love/hate relationship when it comes to the Pax. Some love it, some hate it, some love to hate it, some hate to love it.

But as far as stench goes, I'm surprised you didn't stumble on some of the threads here in GC that address that fact alone. It is one of the smelliest portables. You'll have to learn its ins and outs once get it. Here are some examples:
    • When its heating up, and its not clean, its going to give off a nice stink to it. So, preheat it when you're in the car or outside. Only takes 30 seconds.
    • When you're done dump the ABV (already been vaped herb) out and save it if you want. Make sure its off before you pop it in your pocket. It shouldn't smell too badly cooling down in your pocket.
    • Clean it when you're done. And once a day at a minimum. Ideally after each session. Keeping the Pax clean, both the oven and vapor path, will help minimize the smell from it. It's still stinky, but it will be minimized. Aside from that, keeping the Pax clean will also make sure it works properly. Besides, you can void the warranty from damage caused by poor cleaning.
    • When you're having your session, make sure you're somewhere that the smell can be dissipated easily. Using the Pax in a dorm room, you might as well pass around a hand pipe. Granted the smell isn't as strong as a hand pipe, but it does linger for a bit but not as long.
Personally, I would've went with a Magic Flight Launch Box. There are more logistics to it, but the pay off is being able to vape, and not have it smell or have anyone even know what you just did. Also, the MFLB conserves... the Pax doesn't encourage conservation or efficiency.... but thats a whole different thread all together.
