I don't, I like rx7s but one thing is for sure, stay away from Rx8s. These have lots of maintance issues and the resale value is horrible.
True that maintenance is similar to a VW. However the Renesis motor in the rx8 has a lot of potential. While a lot of guys with rx7s would do the upgrades to rb13, like adding upgraded wiper seals, adding extra rotors. The Renesis did a lot of these upgrades stock motor. I can't remember but, I think you can go right around 400+hp on the stock 8
i just got my rx7 a couple days ago. and if you had the option you should have got an 05 or newer. the 04's have really shitty transmissions or some other issue. all i know is that 04's and older are pretty bad. but hey at least its a rotary. its a pain in the ass to boost an rx8. wankles are a lot better than renesis engines. the renesis was built around gas mileage and the rx8 is a great looking car but if you want performance the rx7 is the way to go.
My rx7 Rx8 are cool for what they are but I don't like the renesis and its side ports. I enjoy my peripheral exhaust ports I own a 90 rx7 convertible I love rotary's ...rebuilding a s5 turbo II 13b for her
@[member="invinciblejets"] Ya you right I messed up, 13b-rew--twin turbo. As far as wiper seals, or apex seals, they really do exist. And for adding extra rotors to your wankel, very common knowledge in the rx world, here's a link. http://www.nopistons.com/rotary-engine-building-porting-swaps-55/4-rotor-build-75895/ And here's a 12 rotor for shits and giggles- http://www.autoweek.com/article/20140225/carnews01/140229886
I figured it was typo. But adding rotors is not as easy as just adding rotors to a 13b it is complex and most have custom e shafts and irons/housing it is like having a different engine and not just a common upgrade usually fabricating is the only way which is not for the everyday rotorhead. Obviously you can buy a 20b three rotor. 4 rotor and up tho not easy. 12 rotor Is pure badass
@[member="invinciblejets"] It's also not easy to bore and hone a piston motor, but it has been done. Wankels are kind of a niche, ya they cool as hell, and make some strange noises. I would still take an LS1 tho. 12 rotor is insane.
I own the spinning nacho 05 and with 72k miles on it I'm still loving it Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
I love the FC and FD but this is exactly the reason why I stick to my rods/pistons. I get frustrated enough with my typical engines. I would probably rip my hair out trying to build a rotary engine. Plus, my experience with rotary engines is zero. Not gonna lie though. When I first saw the RX-8 at a car meet, I looked under the hood and all I could recognize was an alternator and an intake hose. I was like, "Where's the rest of the engine?" I could feel my penis shrinking so I walked away.
They have a bad rep for being unreliable and such but it is a different engine so it requires different attention. They really are not as hard to build as most would think check out this video if you have some time or at least get the jist of it fairly straightforward though. there is only a few moving parts but ALOT of seals most peoples think apex seals are the biggest nightmare really apex seal rarely blow it's usually a coolant or oil ring that makes a rotary loose compression http://youtu.be/ijJeUk_GqiI Sent from my iPhone 5s using Grasscity Forum..grabba dabba goo
I'v always been curious about the 13/20B engines. I'll check the video out in the morning with a cup of coffee, need to go to bed. My wife is having one of those days where she goes a little cray. What's done to your FC?
My fc is mostlybstock right now mostly because its my daily I bought it in alot worse shape than it is now Replaced trans clutch and swapped to a welded diff put a short shifter in Painted the hood and rear bumper And fixed tons of random issues like clock not working and bs like that so everything works right. Still chasing a misfire that is intermitten but rrally annoying waiting to find a s5 na ecu to swap out to see if that fixes it Also just bought a full trunk carpet a d plastics because myn was stripped so gonna put that back to stock Slowly collecting parts to rebuild my t2 keg put seals are expensive and i bought a short bkock so have to find tons of randoom parts When it comes down to it tho my plans are a good looking beach cruiser i dont need it to be insane fast ill get a hardtop rxu for that convertibles are to heavy and sloppy but hearing that rotary pop flames with the too down is glorious haha but seriously. This thung is sloww right now Stock 0-60 for the vert was 9.8 seconds so a ups truck can pull on me lol
That is what working on cars is all about. Bringing these rare cars back from the brink of death is a great accomplishment. You should be proud of yourself. Like I said before, I have no experienced with rotary engines but when I have misfire problems, follow a simple procedure: -are you getting fuel consistenly -are you getting spark consistently -what is your fuel pressure -check your timing -check the amperage to your igniter with a volt meter -what is your air/fuel ratio at idle/cruise/wide open throttle -check your plug gap (don't even know if you guys have spark plugs) -do you guys even run a coil over plug/distributor system or is that just not possible with rotary engines. If you do, check for hairline cracks in your ignition system and wrap them with heat shrink wrap I can try to help you diagnose your problem because I know all too well how annoying/frustrating intermittent misfires can be. I like the beach cruiser idea though. Just get to about 350-400 rwhp in that light car and you'll take out 90% of the cars on the road. And you'll never be late to the beach.
I never realized how bad the resale actually was until one of my friends was mentioning that he was in the market for one (he now owns one) and i thought to myself "huh thats a pretty new, pricey car how can ***** afford one of those" then i looked at craigslist and was really surprised.
They are really cheap there is an 06 with a blown engine only 96k everything else is clean AF he wants 2k tempting... Sent from my iPhone 5s using Grasscity Forum..grabba dabba goo
Went the through normal checklist for misfires replaced injectors with cleaned and flow tested. Set tps sensor Replaced plugs and wires Tested coil packs (trailing coil was intermittent) Tried two different coil packs from a friend and it still did it checked voltage at ecu at it was intermittent also. Btw this is what my ecu panel looks like [ attachment=1547971:ImageUploadedByGrasscity Forum1409644244.831529.jpg] Rust = water so yeahh Opened ecu found tons of condensation and burnt resistors So trying to find another ecu for my convertible model but it's proving harder than I thought...pretty positive that it though makes sense and least.. Going for around 250-300hp reliably with turbo engine still want it to be drivable on the street high hp 13bt engines are hard to make street able when you only making power past 7k Sent from my iPhone 5s using Grasscity Forum..grabba dabba goo
