Question For Military Blades

Discussion in 'General' started by maceJPM, May 30, 2014.

  1. Well to start off, I've always wanted to join the military since i was a kid. Not out of a sense of duty or patriotism or nothing, i just love the environment and stuff (love guns, martial arts, survivalist stuff, etc...)

I wish i'd joined right out of high school but i didn't. A few years back i was trying hard to join the marines and was extremely motivated. Lost over 60 lbs in 3 months to meet the weight req's and all that. But the recruiters were bullshitting me hard even though they saw my motivation. Im about 99% sure it was cause when i first talked to the recruit he asked if i'd smoked weed before and how many times.

Figuring they'd appreciate the honesty, i said more times than i could count. I found out later that have to get a waiver for any times you say over 4-5. Had some friends who were bigger potheads than me and got in cause they lied.

Anyway besides that some shit came up in my life and i lost all my motivation for it. But i've always regretted not going through with it and for some reason just know i'll regret it if i dont try again.

Anyway fast forward to now.. I'm coming to a crossroads in my life and within the next few months i gotta make a decision that will effect me for a long time.

I been really thinking about going for the military again. But now i have a DUI charged (happened 2+yrs ago but didnt get convicted until last year and it should be expunged next month) but also got a driving while license revoked charge last year (very little options of getting to work and couldnt lose my job).

So with those two charges, how screwed am i with trying to get in? I know they have gotten more choosy and strict on what they allow lately so my chances may be low.

Also, i have a family friend who is a colonel in the army special forces, and that was years ago and i know he's been promoted atleast twice since. Is there a chance he could pull some strings to help me out?

    Thanks in advance guys.

  2. I honestly have no idea, but you're probably better off trying a different part of the military. The marines are probably less lenient than others with those charges.

I'm a Marine. You could join the Army probably. Trust me dude, DONT use the military as like a second chance/no other options thing or you WILL regret it. I promise you. And make sure it's what you want. The cliches you hear about aren't true and you'll end up hating your life more times than not. I realized this when I found myself in Afghanistan burning human feces in a combat zone and police calling at the most retarded of times, while being bitched at by some pog bitch gunny who eats hot chow 3 times a day, saying my uniforms not in regs after I've been out on patrol for 3 days. The decision is yours but make sure it's a good one for you.

Was the DUI a misdemeanor? The driving while lic. rev. was that an actual criminal charge or a traffic ticket? With 1 misd you will need a waiver if you can get one, if you have 2 it is over, for all branches.

  6. Because how else do we get rid of it?

Yea, marines was my first choice but im definitely open to other branches. I wanted to go marines cause everyone says its the hardest and i wanted to challenge myself and push myself. Plus i just love the whole "concept" or whatever of the marines.. Like, whats that quote? "Someone in the army will say they're in the army. In the navy will say they're in the navy. But you ask a marine and he will say I AM a marine" that quote was off and im drunk so cant remember it 100% but i feel thats the best way to explain it.

But like i said im open to other branches. I'd be just as happy in the army. Even talking to a friend in the NG. Basically whoever will take me at the most pay lol.

I got you bro. It's definitely not a last resort type thing. I have options on my plate. This is basically 1 out of atleast 5 thing, but its pretty much 2 im leaning towards (this and another).

Like i said before i always wanted to join up. Honestly i feel like my life wouldnt be complete if i didnt spend some time in the military (actually considering looking into militias if i cant go military).

My dads actually a cop and has had me trained since i was young lol. Could sight in a rifle in elementary school, shot my first gun at 4 years old. Used to memorize training manuals in middle school lol. Wanted to be a sniper since i was a kid (though pretty much everyone i know in the military has told me try to avoid actually doing it haha)

I know i would have to deal with some shitty situations (no pun intended from your post lmao), but i think i can deal.

Anyway basically i honestly feel like if i never joined or atleast tried then i think i would regret that more, its just something in me that feels i need to, which is crazy cause im partially a conspiracy theorist and dont really support any of the wars lol.

I know the DUI was a misdemeanor, honestly not sure about the DWLR though, i'll check with my lawyer cause that would suck hard

I cant lie though i do have a smartass/sarcastic mouth, and question authority alot (if i wasnt so good at my job i probably woulda been fired for it a long time ago lol) but i know when to keep my mouth shut an do what i got to do.

Is it sad that one of the maine reasons i've been hesitant to join is that i dont want to get rod of my beard? Lol. Though i would if i had to of course

If you want to want, do it. I can't tell you not to. The wars are over anyways, and youll be in the new corps. It's a garrison corps focused on fucking uniforms and regulations and its retarded as fuck I'll tell you that. I like many other guys saw the transition from war time to peace time and I didn't like it one bit. When I first joined no one gave a fuck about how good your uniforms looked, or whether your boots were dirty or your charlies had creases in the sleeves, we were grunts, devildogs and no one gave a fuck about that shit. Nowadays shit's retarded and that's why a lot of guys are getting out. But if you feel like you need to do it then do it. But trust me when I say that you better make sure 100% it's what you want. Make it your goal to join, wait a few months and if you still REALLY want to then do it. Honestly though, it's cool being a Marine but the appeal get's old a few months after bootcamp I promise you that. You're going to find yourself in A LOT of stupid ass situations, but it's all part of it nowadays I guess. I loved the Marine Corps back then but it's gone to shit. I was hazed hardcore by my senior lance corporals, and I didn't cry hazing, none of us did. That was the old corps, a bunch of actual hardcore dudes who loved their job and was dedicated to it. Now it's all about deceit and most guys don't even have combat actions ribbons. Nowadays you yell at a boot wrong and he goes and fucking cries to his chain of command and you find yourself busted down to Private with an NJP, and your career is fucked.

Shit sucks man. But goodluck, message me if you want to know anything.
