  1. This has far reaching implications Brothers!
Here's why I get involved and I suggest you do as well. This is a great victory for cannabis patients in all states who are being stalked and prosecuted for nothing more than using a safe herb which the citizens of their state approved, to improve their quality of life. It's time the Feds quit breaking into the homes of peaceful people who usually would let them in if they'd only knock, and use our tax dollars to find the much harder to locate crack an narcotics dealers. Congress Votes to End War on Medical Marijuana Patients and Providers

49 Republicans and 170 Democrats approve historic amendment intended to prevent the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration from raiding state-legal medical marijuana dispensaries

    * Statement below from Dan Riffle of MPP, which has been lobbying in support of the measure since 2003 *

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congress approved a measure Thursday (219-189) that will prevent the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) from interfering with state medical marijuana laws. The legislation marks the first time in history that Congress has voted in favor of ending the federal government's war on medical marijuana patients and providers. A record-high 49 Republicans voted in favor of the measure.

The amendment to H.R. 4660, the Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, offered by Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA), prohibits the Department of Justice, including the DEA, from spending funds to prevent states from implementing their own medical marijuana laws. The amendment has been offered seven times since 2003. It received a then-record high 165 votes in 2007, which included 15 Republicans.

Statement from Dan Riffle, director of federal policies for the Marijuana Policy Project (MPP), which has been lobbying in support of the measure since it was first introduced in 2003:

“Congress is officially pulling out of the war on medical marijuana patients and providers. Federal tax dollars will no longer be wasted arresting seriously ill medical marijuana patients and those who provide to them. This is a historic vote, and it's yet another sign that our federal government is shifting toward a more sensible marijuana policy.

“This measure passed because it received more support from Republicans than ever before. It is refreshing to see conservatives in Congress sticking to their conservative principles when it comes to marijuana policy. Republicans increasingly recognize that marijuana prohibition is a failed Big Government program that infringes on states' rights.

“It's becoming clearer and clearer that marijuana prohibition's days are numbered. Polls are consistently finding that a strong majority of Americans think marijuana should be legal, and an overwhelming majority support legal access to medical marijuana. It's nice to see more members of Congress standing up for their constituents instead of standing in the way of reform.”

  2. are they seeing dollar signs or what? why the sudden change in how cannabis is viewed? I know there is a tipping point but still curious as to why cannabis is ok to them now??

  3. It's all about the money...they don't give a shit about the medicinal value......

  4. I disagree jmick, the wifey and I are not what anyone would call "well off"..but I've been a supporting member of Norml, Americans for Safe Access. and the Marijuana Policy Project for years. They and the grass roots efforts they contribute too are what pushed this to this stage. They make it very easy to write your Congressmen and Senators, consider joining.. I dug out my Visa card this morning and made a special donation to each of them. I wrote my congressman for the past month. Think about that my friends, do what you can..peace..DD

Sorry, I should have been more to the point. Not saying groups like Norml or any other medical advocacy groups are in it for the money, just seems like as public acceptance has grown, so have the people that see it as a growth industry, and a way to make a lot of cash....

\t So kids, how about sending a nice "Thank You!" letter to the appropriate local politicians  :yay: , or even more importantly, a "Shame on You!" letter where needed  !   This will give you their email and snailmail addresses in a couple clicks-

    http://www.usa.gov/Contact/Elected.shtml

You KNOW there is going to be a flood of mail over this! So be nice to the poor, over-worked clerks, keep your Thank You letter short and sweet!

For those who didn't vote yes, "give them both barrels"!

And being my usual helpful self, for those who DIDN'T vote yes, these may help you shame them a bit!

"Report of a parent survey of cannabidiol-enriched cannabis use in pediatric treatment-resistant epilepsy” (Science Direct - 2013) from the abstract - "Sixteen (84%) of the 19 parents reported a reduction in their child's seizure frequency while taking cannabidiol-enriched cannabis. Of these, two (11%) reported complete seizure freedom, eight (42%) reported a greater than 80% reduction in seizure frequency, and six (32%) reported a 25–60% seizure reduction. Other beneficial effects included increased alertness, better mood, and improved sleep."

"Treatment with CBD in oily solution of drug-resistant paediatric epilepsies" (PubMed - 2005) from the abstract- “Conclusions: So far obtained results in our open study appear encouraging for various reasons: 1) no side effects of such a severity were observed as to require CBD discontinuation; 2) in most of the treated children an improvement of the crises was obtained equal to, or higher than, 25% in spite of the low CBD doses administered; 3) in all CBD- treated children a clear improvement of consciousness and spasticity (whenever present) was observed.”

“Cannabis extract treatment for terminal Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia with a Philadelphia chromosome mutation” (PubMed) where "Cannabinoid resin extract is used as an effective treatment for ALL" (FYI- The girl dies of complications from her previous chemo- but her leukemia was responding to the RSO)

“Cannabidiol as a novel inhibitor of Id-1 gene expression in aggressive breast cancer cells” (PubMed) where “CBD represents the first nontoxic exogenous agent that can significantly decrease Id-1 expression in metastatic breast cancer cells leading to the down-regulation of tumor aggressiveness.”  (Non-toxic chemo?)

    “A Molecular Link between the Active Component of Marijuana and Alzheimer's Disease Pathology” (PubMed) where “THC and its analogues may provide an improved therapeutic for Alzheimer's disease, augmenting acetylcholine levels by preventing neurotransmitter degradation and reducing A‚ aggregation, thereby simultaneously treating both the symptoms and progression of Alzheimer's disease”;

Or more simply from WebMD, "Marijuana May Slow Alzheimer's" where “THC blocks an enzyme called acetylcholinesterase, which speeds the formation of amyloid plaque in the brains of people with Alzheimer's disease. The Alzheimer's drugs Aricept and Cognex work by blocking acetylcholinesterase. When tested at DOUBLE the concentration of THC, Aricept blocked plaque formation only 22% as well as THC, and Cognex blocked plaque formation only 7% as well as THC.”

“An ultra-low dose of tetrahydrocannabinol provides cardioprotection” where “A single ultra low dose of THC before ischemia is a safe and effective treatment that reduces myocardial ischemic damage.”

“Cannabidiol Attenuates Cardiac Dysfunction, Oxidative Stress, Fibrosis, and Inflammatory and Cell Death Signaling Pathways in Diabetic Cardiomyopathy” (natap) concludes “Collectively, our results strongly suggest that CBD may have tremendous therapeutic potential in the treatment of diabetic cardiovascular and other complications by attenuating diabetes-induced oxidative/nitrative stress, inflammation, cell death, and fibrotic pathways.”

    That should get you started!

  7. ^^ would like to see the votes on a few color coded maps to show demographics of states and reps areas

  8. Just hope the senate passes it now...

  9. The caucus may leave it out of the bill that ends up on Obama-s desk which is just as bad. Chances look good, but those who voted for it may change to no during the caucus prior to the bill going to the Pres.
By the way, Debbie Wasaerman Schultz, the chairwoman of the democratic party, voted NO. Hello sheeple!! She's as bad as Hillary would be, as bad as Clinton, yet another corporate representative masquerading as a member of Congress.

  10. God, I really wish I knew more about politics and how bills and laws come into place, then I would really know what's going on. So far it looks great but I'm shocked at how many republicans voted no. I'm not the kind of guy that picks a party to hate on, but shame on them! Either paid off to vote no or just completely ignored the facts about weed. Hope this bill passes...

  11. some of the mentality there is to ban by control all herbs and nature ( sensitive we have been on the planet millions of years stuff) for that matter. health to them does not come from nature or natural living but rather the white pills and pre scribed meds by glorified docs to fix their F*@[member="ked"] up way of living. got a problem go seee the doc, want a problem then live their un-natural way of living which leads to needing docs in the first place. So much can be said about seeing the problems and knowing a solution and utilizing said solution for good health. we all know the solution.  :)

I'm ommp and think mj is great for my woes...replaced 1200 a month in pills/shots with herb I grow...mj works wonders for a lot, other herbs do too, but there are times the old herbal things fail...if a modern med works why ignore it?

yes indeed. all things in there time, a place for every invention and not least the invention of nature as presented to us so naturally. congrats on finding simple cure from the dirt. people sometimes give up on the limited complexity impossibles of modern meds and go back to more nature type meds closer to livingness. I have seen miraculous feats of consciousness and healing in my life. the power needed goes beyond measure and places every human on a limited get to know it basis if ever at all.

  16. The fucked up part is the White House approved the annual DEA requested budget AND added 35 million!?!?!? Just a bunch of hypocrisy!
