I think you're right about their need to have secrecy - I couldn't think of many things they could get out of exposing their true nature to relatively primitive beings. Now that I think about it, given our past, I'd think that aliens would want to either avoid us, or destroy us to make sure that we never develop anything bigger than nukes - we seem to have issues with aggression... No no, it's not that I don't believe the phenomena exists, it's that I don't know what they are, where they came from, how they got here, or why they're here. I don't know if they're flesh, illusion, interdimensional, hallucination, humans from the future, aliens from another galaxy, etc. I admit that they may exist, and I admit that I have no fucking clue what it's all about.
