How To Flush

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by turtle360, May 27, 2014.

  1. Want to get it cleaned up in there, mid grow clean up.

If I'm in 3 gallon pots I need to put 6 gallons ph adjusted water through there. On account this could wash out much of the elements should I make a last watering with some nutrients to replenish the soil?

  2. The point of flushing is to get rid of all the nutes/ salt build up etc, don't give it any nutes until they have been flushed out with good ph'd water

  3. After you flush, don't water it until the soil is dry and just follow the feeding schedule on your nutes regime when you water.

  4. I disagree with the above two posts. You are better off giving them a nute solution right afterwards or you will likely end up with nutrient deficiency signs. or just flush with the solution itself. Keep it low dose though, about a third strength if you are half way through.

The only time when I would say flush with just water and nothing else is in the last week or two before harvest

  5. Agreed, flush with a low EC mid grow and its 3x the pot so 3 ltr would need 9 ltr flush.

  6.
okay so i am about to do a flush of 5 gallon pots, does that mean if i have 4 of them i need to have 20 gallons of water? i've been using distilled water from the store but would probably look weird getting 20...have city water, can i just flush with the tap and mix up a final (5 gallons?) of water with nutes?

I think i am having troubles from the soil amendments i added and did not let the soil cook long enough before planting.

  7. Flushing won't help if that is the case... Your soil is actually hot in a literal sense. The microbes are having exothermic reactions as they break down the amendments. I had the same issue, you just gotta ride it out.

  8. molasses works good for flushing too i did 1-2 tsp per gallon...helps jump start microbes too

  9.
That would depend on your tap water. What amendments have you got in there? Chlorine is present in tap water and will make a very harsh environment for the beneficial bacteria in the soil that converts the raw organic material in to nutrients that the plants can absorb.

I find using chemical nutrients so much easier because you don't have to rely on bacteria to provide what the plants need. But organic fertilisers certainly have their place if used correctly

  10. blood meal, azomite, dolomite lime, bat guano, seafood meal, ewc, all in FFOF... i have old humboldt nutrients that i have also been adding for the past week or so in what i thought was small amounts.

  11. Wow you added all that to FFOF... yeah that soil is hotter than 2 scorpions fucking man. You wouldn't need any nutes in a soil like that if it is cycled properly. Mix that all up put it in your pots and let it set for 5-6 weeks and you wil be able to go water only from seed to harvest. You had a good idea just didn't let it go long enough. I guarantee your issue is heat in the root zone. When my soil is about 2-3 weeks into cycling it reaches temps of about 120-130 F and then a couple weeks later it is ready. I made the same exact mistake when I started organics and my plants pulled through with LITFA. One of them turned out male but the other is 9 days into flower now and I haven't had to do anything but water her.

She is the one in the middle...

yeah man i just find it hard to give it water, just need more experience.

i just got a soil pH meter because i thought i was a bad pH level but it's sticking at 6.5, but it also reads temp and does not say the soil is not too hot right now about room temp ( i don't even know if that's even right though).

what i'm taking out of what you said is to do nothing, no flush, just water when needed with strait h2O

  13. That is what I did and it worked... LITFA has always worked for me though... maybe I am just lucky. Water only is the easiest way to grow if you have your soil right. It is worth aspiring to... I am to the point that most days I just go into my room for lights on check on all the plants and then unless I have transplants or something zip the tent back up and wait til lights come back on the next day.

  14. okay so i just wanted to ask if the ("3 way only" cfl bulbs) will work in a regular light socket? saw one 150w replacement today that was like 2100 lumens or something...

also i happened to leave my lights on for like 4 extra hours  !!!!!!! (don't ask) should i just turn them back on at their regular scheduled time or what?

  15.
What is a 3 way bulb?

A CFL that gives off 1600 lumens will be about 25 watts, not 150

Are the plants in flower? I would just carry on as normal. Buy a timer as soon as you can

  16.  I have no idea what this 3 way bulb was (meant to be used on a 3 way switch like how a ceiling fan has 3 settings i guess, yea it said it was a 25,50,150w replacement or something like that and 2100 lumens at 150w (can't totally remember, but it was something like this)

I was thinking about getting rid of these 4' fixtures that i had for my beginner veg portion.

I think i'm going to give these other ones till the end of the month before i switch them from the 600w MH to the HPS. i really just want to fill up a 3.5'x3.5' net right? so however long that takes...

OH YEA i forgot to say that i tested the runoff water with my bluestick and it was offfff the charts (top(or bottom i guess depending on how you hold it) light blinking very slow) so i freaked out and flushed them all with about 25 gal total...brought the runoff down to about 600-700 and everybody is looking much happier the next day (not perky and pointing strait up but look fairly happy)
