Need A Good Scare

  1. I've been kinda yearning for a good scare recently. Watched a couple movies I thought would be scary last weekend, but they weren't. Rented a game I thought would be scary, but stopped being scary after an hour once I learned how the enemies behave.

Seems like all scary movies are either about haunted houses or demonic possessions. Not much variety. I want a movie that builds up a sense of impending doom, and not just filled with a bunch of cheap jump scares (though if its a good movie overall, I'll watch it)

Suggestions? I just ask that it be something on Netflix streaming

    Watch Insidious,Woman in Black,Silent Hill

  4. Insidious and all those other movies were good, but I still think Grave Encounters tops them. But hey, to each their own

Candyman.  As a child my cousins told me about Candyman.  Long story short, I was scared shitless of mirrors.

Here's my Amazon Review of the movie:

    But I'm Scared

I've seen this movie a handful of times but there was a feeling I've never grasped until my most recent viewing. Helen starts out as a skeptic of the urban legend Candyman but when she comes in to contact with the real thing her life completely goes to hell.

This is the point where Candyman goes beyond a simple horror/slasher flick and into more psychological thriller territory. As any chance of normalcy in Helens life is gone the element of surrender to Candyman as the classic line "Be My Victim" suggests becomes more and more probable.

Like someone who can't swim being thrown into a lake, left threshing and kicking just to stay afloat, there's something comforting about when they decide to stop delaying the inevitable.

Succumbing to surrender in an eerily-beautiful yet melancholy way.

Realling Haunting soundtrack by Phillip Glass too.

edit:  Don't be lazy buy this off of Amazon You can probably get it for 7 bucks.

  11. I haven't seen this movie but maybe evil dead the 1981 & the remake. Idk just tossing ideas

  12. If you are open to scary video games, and haven't played it yet, try Dead Space.

Otherwise try True Detective. It is much more like psychological horror than action/drama. There are parts of that series that are creepy as fuck! The end of the 3rd episode anyone?

  13. Watch Suspiria.

I just saw this film about a week and a half ago and it blew my mind. I ended up watching it again that night, and then a third time a few days later (with my wireless headphones on which added immeasurably to it - especially the music and overall sound design).

I'd never usually watch the same movie twice within such a short space of time but this one drew me in within the first few minutes (mostly due to the score which is creepy/insidious as fuck) and I couldn't stop thinking about it when it had finished hence wanting to see it again.

I haven't seen it high yet but I imagine it'd be a great movie to watch in that mindstate, especially at night with a nice audio setup or headphones. It's definitely on my things to do list for next time I get high.

I saw the english version btw, if you try and find it online you might find it in Italian or another language if you don't specifically look for the english one.

Seeing Suspiria immediately made me want to check out all Dario Argento's other movies, so far I've only seen Tenebre which is also awesome but barely feels like a horror movie and has more of a murder mystery/80s action kind of vibe to it for the most part. Going to watch Deep Red and Inferno (somewhat of a followup to Suspiria) soon.

Disclaimer: some people really dislike this movie for whatever reason - IMDB boards are filled with people posting threads about it who failed to appreciate it, while other people think it's one of the best horror movies ever made. So yeah, I can't guarantee it'll be everyone's cup of tea but I loved it.

  14. I was going to play DeadSpace but then i read that it stops being scary very quickly, as in you can anticipate when its going to be scary/where all the jump scares are. I might give it a shot soon since you recommend it though. I rented Alan Wake from Gamefly. It also stopped being scary after i figured out the enemies. Great story however, but i never got around to finishing it because the gameplay wasnt to my liking.

Susperia sounds like a great movie, but its not on Netflix... As a matter of fact, most scary movies people have posted in here and other threads, arent on Netflix.

    jumping out of planes...
scuba diving in the ocean where sharks might be...
    bungee jumping...
    hunting alligators...
waving flags at raging bulls with tight elastics on their nuts...
