Are Those Trichomes Or Confectionary Sugar?

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by turtle360, May 22, 2014.

  1. Auto grow. 60 some odd day grow. I'm at day 38.

I'm using a 40X loupe to see what's up. While there's some delicate frostiness I certainly don't see anything resembling those shitake mushroomy looking things, you know the clear viscousy stems with the bulbous looking head. Looks more like a sprinkle of confectionary sugar. Is it too early to see those 3 dimensional stalks or are some people getting pictures of them through electron microscopes?

  2. Depends on the strain, but you should be seeing trichomes by now. Got any pictures?

Comfirm what your seeing isn't powdery mildew.

  3. def not mildew.

picture won't reveal even the white frosty cover. need magnification for that. I'll show you a picture though.......

green to the naked eye.delicately white under 40X.

  4. Ah okay, still a little early. They'll be popping up all over very shortly. Looks good!

  5. There's not a lot of trichomes on that is there. What strain is that?

There are different types of trichomes on cannabis plants, yours are probably just immature.

  7. Buddha White Dwarf

  8. For trichome color are we looking only at the head? In other words the head can turn cloudy and the body stays clear?

  9.
White strains usually live up to their name. How's it looking now?

The head is the only part I'm interested in, I don't think the stalk changes much, or at least not before I harvest

    How's it looking? Complicated....

I kind of flushed one a little and induced some yellowing. I'm trying to replace lost N when I should soon be drawing it down. Beginners trials. :confused_2: . The other is still green. To my unpracticed eye the trichomes are clear but at least visible. The pistils almost half brown on top, mostly white below. The breeder's as soon as date is one week from today. I'm guessing 2 weeks for flushing planning purposes but I don't know. I'm gonna check daily. Look for change. How fast could it turn?

That's a strange plant, I don't know if I've seen a strain so far into flowering without any resin development. Usually I start getting trich development within the first 10-14 days.

EDIT: I see the resin now, after looking closer but it's really just barely started, that looks like the start of resin development on very early flowering. What strain is that?

EDIT2: i been growing for a while now and I say forget the microscope and trichome colors. I've never been able to use my loupe on a live plant anyway, too shaky. I find it a lot easier to determine ripeness by looking at the color and shape of the flowers. The calyx's will swell up and the pistils will recede back into the flower, and the buds will have an amber tinge when you look at them from a distance. Also if you are just beginning, if you think it's ready for harvest wait a week or even two, then harvest.

  12. The strain, once again sports fans, is White Dwarf, breeder Buddha seeds. Of pertinence it is an autoflower. I am today 1 week from the 2 month harvest-from-sowing claimed by the breeder. I'm thinking longer. I will show you a recent picture of each, the larger dwarf which I hobbled hence yellowing prematurely and the dwarfy dwarf which is still quite green. p1 jne4.JPG p1 jun4.JPG p1 june4.JPG p2 jne4.JPG p2 june4.JPG
the last 2 are the lil fella.

  13. Then this one........ P1010722.JPG

  14. apparently.......

  15. The lack of trichomes on the sugar leaves is weird. It looks pretty ripe  :confused_2:

  16. ripe?

  17. Big and swollen, ready or almost ready for harvest.

  18. Nice juicy thc-less harvest!

  19. I say up your PK values or buy a sweetner. Your trichs are like 2 weeks behind.
