you let it sit for 2-3 months? holy hell man. change that shit everytime you smoke. some nice pure cold spring water. your bong must look like someone took a shit in it if you let that water just sit in there must smell like someone asshole too
At least once a day if you're smoking more than that... otherwise every time you put it away... else you get that nasty ring and it starts to look and taste gross.
I like to do it after one "sesh" which is 3 nice hits. I think dirty bong water ruins the taste and makes me cough more. I've seen bong water literally pitch black lol it's nasty. Plus the more you clean it the longer it takes for your bong to get dirty.

I change it every sesh and give a good actual 7-15 minute clean(depending on size and piece) every month or so.
Why wouldn't you replace it every time? That's what I used to do, if I recall correctly. Also I wanted to be able to put it away and not worry about spilling strong smelling bong water all over the place.
Every day, sometime twice. Bong gets cleaned at least once every three days. Like I tell my friends, if you want to get high off something that tastes like crap go buy some other stuff in a dark alley
