Experience With joint Wax?

Discussion in 'Concentrate Tools' started by Recovery1CDR, Apr 24, 2014.

  1. I grabbed some joint wax at the headshop the other day, but am curious of other people's experience. I've been experience a lot of joints locking up, especially with my bowls and ti domeless. When I got it, I wasn't sure if it was old because it applied very stiffly, much like bees wax. I just assumed it would apply with the consistency of chap stick. Since it is stiffer, it's hard to distribute the wax evenly along the joint.

I understand that it should not be used with TI, but is there anything that can prevent ti locking onto glass? I'm sick of having to torch the hell out of it for it to expand and come off. Making my joints look like they went through the 7 circles of hell. Takes forever to scrape that residue off..

  2. I've never torched my nail to get it off. I just twist it clockwise while pulling up slightly and it comes off. The one time it got really stuck I just took a dab and wait he for the heat to to transfer to the bottom and it pops right off.

  3. Yuh i had that problem but i couldn't twist or yank on it cuz it's a 10mm on a pendent rig. You shouldn't have to be forceful with your ti nail to get it off at all or you risk breaking the joint. Mine stuck on it right off the bat without even taking a dab on it, it was some bull shit. I had to torch the top red hot for a while and heat the outside ti around the joint, in order for it to expand wide enough. It was a son of a bitch to get off mane.

  4. What nail are you using? Never had a real problem with my infinity

Have you tried heating the nail and letting the heat transfer down on it's own then pulling it with a twisting motion? If not you might want to use a piece of parchment paper as a spacer.

That should stop the problem you are having but you will have to change out the parchment paper every week or two depending on use, otherwise it will be a bitch to clean

  7. I like that parchment paper idea, but i'd be curious what the melting point is. I'd hate for the joint to be covered in bull shit, ya feel me?

I don't have a problem of figuring out how to remove the nail, it's just majorly inconvenient. The ti doesn't expand wide enough if i wait... idk... blasting the metal over the joint just helps the process along. Twisting motion is a no go, not only for my piece, but good to keep in mind for any. The metal will always expand wide enough when heated to completely avoid any amount of force.

I thought otherwise for a while, because that 10mm domeless was stuck on that rig for a month before i got it off.

You know what, fuck these TI nails. I have a few nails that i've been going back and forth on, but i love that quartz domeless. Bout to step up to that hive ceramic though.

  8. The stuff works amazing I have some and use it on everything that touches glass on glass is the best to use it with though but it works great I live by it

  9. I use parchment paper and have always used it on my domeless nails. It won't get hot enough to effect the parchment paper

  10.
Does it apply smooth and easy like chap stick? I'm trying to figure out if what they sold me has expired lol.

  11. Maybe it's a the 10mm nails? Idk.

The parchment paper won't melt as long as you don't heat the piece that connects to your joint. You would want to change it every 5 days or so to make sure it doesn't get brittle and stuck because it's a bitch to clean.

I prefer TI because it heats faster and is easier to low temp my dabs :)

Don't give up on TI man.

  12. I use slide wax on my bongs and joint wax on my rigs, both are awesome and they always go on smooth but it definitely leaves a visible residue kinda like a glue stick

Whaaaaat? But the flavor on the quartz is superb! I could understand your opinion though if that TI is hella seasoned.

This gives me an idea. You ever seen your grandma's cast iron skillet? I'mma do that with my TI nail. WE SEASONING THROUGH THE GENERATIONS SON. My children's children will be smoking off of this nail with their futuristic pipes in space

@[member="Jimmy Carter"] came up with a way to season your nail heads using the oven, not sure if that's what you are referring too but you should check out his post if you plan on doing it that way. It's a proven method for seasoning

As for flavor... Is say TI has better flavor retention as well as better over all flavor than quartz(which also has to be seasoned).

  15. The magic of ceramic is there is no seasoning process, gonna get a HIVE soon

  16. Not really sure what you mean by that man

  17. I talk

I walk talking about getting a ceramic. Hive is one of only two manufacturers making them. They do not require seasoning, unlike the ti and quartz. Plus they self clean when a torch is applied.

  18. I'll have to check then out

iv used those HIVE nails. It takes a couple minutes for it to heat up and then another 30-40 seconds to let it cool down to a proper dab temp, those are my only complaints. Holds heat like a champ doe.
