Why Dont My Plants Get Frosty?

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by Joker11211952, Apr 23, 2014.

  1. I'm in the process of flowering four unknown strains- they were a good strain from a seedbank but I had such a problem germinating to seedling I got mixed up on what I was growing. Seriously I must have started 20 seeds to finally get four to flower. I'm growing two in hydro with basic floragro nutes, two in MG soil (all I could afford) but none of the more aggressive additional nutes like koolbloom (for weight)and floralicious + (for aroma). My buds just aren't as frosty as others I have seen. This was my first grow in many years. The buds look rather ordinary.
I'm sure I have to up my game next grow, but is trichome development somewhat due to strain? I am not trying to dis the seeds. I'm just hoping it wasn't all my fault.

Luckily this was a trial grow before I start in earnest.
    Thanks

  2. Can you give some details about your grow?

  3. Wait, did you only use floragrow? U know you need floramicro and florabloom also right? Otherwise your buds won't be too impressive.

  4. I have a question does anyone know when to give your plants their first feed of fertilizer?

  5. I wait about a week. Or you could wait til nutrient defficiencies show up. Start off quarter strength and work your way up until your plants leaves start burning. Then dial the nutrients back a bit.

  6. It could be 1 or all of three things
    1. The genetics are shit
    2. You're growing it wrong
    3. You got nothing but problems

MushroomBandit, Stumpie,I used all three- micro, bloom and grow plus rapid start in the beginning. I am feeding FS nutes at this time. The pH has been easy to manage and keep at 5.8. I mix the nutes one by one into my water (tap- we have good water). PPM appropriate for week according to General Hydro schedule. I started lights on 18/6. Been on 12/12 5 weeks under a 400 HPS and 600 MH/HPS using HPS for flowering. The pistles are starting to turn brown and the trichomes are still clear. I didn't do any trimming, topping or anything- just let them grow.
What I plan to do next is adding the optional aggressive nutes. The flowers themselves have trichomes, but the leaves in the flower (sugar leaves?), I've just seen pictures on the forum where the leaves were covered in trichomes.Oh, I also have two plants in MG (all I could afford)- they matured quicker than the hydro and are smaller but look like the same strain. Same results with these buds.

My next grow is going to be WW AUTO from a different seedbank.

I know it's a poor worker who blames the tools, water, seeds, or nutes. That's why I'm asking for advice. I plan to add the more aggressive optional nutes. The people whose buds I admire are using diamond nectar, floralicious and other nutes beside the base nutrients.

I'm not saying this doesn't work for you but it depends on a lot of variables such as medium and nutes... I use FF ocean forest soil which is loaded with nutes and doesn't need anything added for 3+ weeks at least.

OP I dunno what seedbank you are using but it shouldn't take 20 seeds to get 4 into flower... maybe research more and work on your processes

  9. Sounds like it's just the genetics bud. I wouldn't do "aggressive" nutrients, just give them what they need any more and you'll end up burning them.

Upping your wattage would help too I bet.

  10. SlightlyStoned, and Stumpie- thanks for responding. The seeds I was using were from one seedbank. My next grow is from another seller. Yeah- I think I'll read through a few more hydro diaries and see what they are doing.

  11. Try out single seed centre, they're legit.
You can try upping the nutrients little by little until you find what they can handle.

  12. MushroomBandit- I have a question about the nutes.  When I went to FS nutes the ppm was high, like 2200, but the plants seemed to not care- no nute burn.  Do I give them food at a high ppm if they seem to like it?  I mean do you push the nutes until they protest and then dial it back a notch?  Thanks.
