Leave Roots After Harvest?

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by Schecter420, Apr 22, 2014.

  1. I recently heard from a friend that it is best to keep the roots connected to the plant while you are drying them. I have never seen or heard of this so I was wondering if there are really any benefits considering the roots are no longer drawing any nutrients from the soil. In all my past grows when my plants are ready for harvest I just grab some loppers and cut the stalk at the base.

    Thanks in advance,
    John

  2. I've never heard that before. But personally I don't believe it would help.

  3. continue with what youre doing would be my advice on this.

Never heard such madness before, where do you hear or read this.

  4. im gonna say.... no

not only would it create more of a mess there is nothing beneficial that could come from it. the plant is done and that's why you are harvesting it. just cut it at the base ;)

Scrap the roots.  There is no THC to drain down from the stems and roots to the flowers.  The THC is  in the trichomes.

  6. Yes, if you strip the leaves and hang a plant upside down with the clean roots attached, it will slow the drying process significantly.  This is the time where mold is most likely to take hold.  If you can control the humidity, and prevent mold.

Drying slowly absolutely makes the best end product, but comes with a risk.

Most people don't want to risk it, and try to dry quicker.  I've done both and either method works great, but the quick dry needs a much longer cure than a slow-dry.

A quick dry will remove most moisture in about 3-4 days.   A slow dry will remove most moisture in about 14-21 days.

I sugest drying one plant at a time this way to start, so you get an idea of how to control it.  If you can pull it off, welcome to the big leagues!
