Growth Of A Leaf In Stem?

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by under_we, Apr 22, 2014.

  1. So this 1 month plant has been growing normally until i saw a growth of a leaf coming out between the stem and a branch wat does it mean .... i would appreciate any input

  2. Happening to one of mine aswell, ive not the slightest clue. Anyone?

  3. Pics needed.

  4. Branches can pop out anywhere, especially in the nodes, it's perfectly normal

  5. Normal was the word i was looking for thanks erbody

  6. Heres the pic

  7. That's branches coming from the nodes man, all plants do that. Where the leaf petiole meets the stem is called a node. This is where the side branches come from

  8. Those aren't branches, those are called stipules... They're part of the anatomy of flowering plants. Found on any plants that... Flower lol

  9. Google stipules mate, you don't know what you're talking about lol

  10. I know exactly what I'm talking about. Tell me what plant in the world grows new stems below established nodes? If they were going to form, they would have formed already with the two larger ones.

  11. Wrong again. Those are in fact new branches starting. At the end of flower, if female, there will be a juicy bud at the tip of them. Smdh at ppl on here trying to give advice and don't know wtf they're talking about.

You are using incorrect terminology so I'm not 100% on what you mean. But those "two larger ones" are petioles, where they join the stem is called a node, in between these nodes are internodes. Initially at the nodes side branches shoot out, but given time they can pop out anywhere along any part of the stem or branch. But not on a petiole, that is part of the leaf.

Stipules are something else entirely, and have absolutely nothing to do with flowering. They are at the nodes also but are not part of the side branching, they are little hairs at the nodes that are likely to have served some purpose as the branches first emerge but have no obvious purpose after that
