Chef Louds Second Grow Attempt

  1. This is my first post and second attempt at a grow. Can you believe my dog? From my first grow my terrible shih Tzu destroyed almost all my plants (he loves the taste of weed!) Only two plants survived, and one turned out to be male...needless to say it made great weed flavored butter :) the other one has not shown sex yet. Really hoping that its a female, as it is starting to become quite the plant.
Earlier in the month I finally decided to start a second batch of bagseeds. I am vegging under 8 25w 6500k cfl's at a light regimen of 16-8. All plants were planted in my special homemade soil mix, which seems to be working wonderfully. It provides the right amount of nutes and trace minerals so I don't use ferts at all. When I spot a deficiency I will act accordingly, but so far my big plant has been vegging for a couple months and I haven't had any problems. If you would like a list of what I use in my soil I would be happy to let y'all know. Thanks grass city and happy belated 420 to all! I will post pics as soon as my phone cooperates with me

  3. And now i have spider mites...FML. Luckily they have only infested the open soils, not the mulched plants, and have not damaged any of my babies so far. Will be spraying 3% hydrogen peroxide for this week and seeing how that will go. If that doesn't work, I will try diatomaceous earth and if all else fails, neem oil.

  4. UPDATE: Tonight I decided to take two clones from my big plant. I am dying to know the sex so I plan to flower the cones once theyre rooted and healthy. I used rooting powder (gibberellic acid) and stuck it in my homemade soil mix. Haven't had much success with cloning without a bubbler but my fingers are crossed. Sprayed water over the clones to keep hydrated. Also continued hydrochloric acid applications to the soil to cull the spider mites.

Quick tip: Cutting clones stinks up the basement :D

  5. UPDATE: The April sun feels nice, and I bet my babies would love it. I decided to bring my plants out in the morning and put them in direct sun. I will be doing this every time it's sunny outside. Hopefully this will give my plants a little boost from their normal CFL light.

Yeah sun will do some good, you bring them in before nighttime so they don't start to flower?

  7. Yeah I bring em out round 8-9 am and place em back underneath the CFL's at 4pm for the last 8 hours of light

  8. UPDATE: I finally found the source of the mites! When I mix a batch of my soil, I keep it in storage since I end up with more soil than I need. Apparently in the soil bucket there is a whole mite colony infested throughout the medium. I id'ed the source but now I'm a little skeptical on what they are. They are small white mite looking things but they have only infected my soil so far. None of my plants have webbing or spider mite marks on em. I know there are different types of mites, some beneficial to the soil. Anyone have any ideas as to what critters they are?

  9. Ahhh damn, now I'm scared, I just introduced a pot from outside into the room to grow a dawn redwood, but hopefully winter killed off any critters. I might have a spider in the room as well, so hopefully he's takin care o business

  10. As far as their behavior the mites seem to just wander throughout the soil. Thinking maybe I don't have spider mites (thank bejeesus), but maybe a beneficial soil mite?

  11. I dunno, I wouldn't trust em, there seems to be an infestation, what could they be feeding on? Maybe they're eating all the nutrients in the soil.

  12. I figure they could be beneficial soil decomposer mites, since they seem to just cruise the soil and not harming the plants. In nature there are tons and tons of beneficial mites in the soil. My theory atm is that if they are decomposers, they should be breaking down organic matter in the soil and making it avaliable for plant uptake. Just a little uneasy of seeing insects crawling all over the soils

  15. Haha today I experienced a great moment. All my life my dad pretended to never smoke cigarettes, always denyed it, and seemed to be very strict about smoking. I recently got back on it and decided it should be the first time I do it in front of them. They seemed pretty chill about it, im just old enough. And just today:

    "What you got?"
    "American Spirits"
    "Ohhhh. No additives eh?"
    "LOL yeah"
    ...
    *cops square*

    Busted.

  16. UPDATE: Due to some circumstances I decided to flip my big plant to 12/12. Transplanted her to a smaller pot so she can fit in the flowering chamber too

  18. Got tired of seeing those soil mites in my soil batch...added a small amount of DURSBAN to the mix. Mites gone by the next day!
