Tobacco Moisture Meter Use For Drying Cannabis

Discussion in 'Harvesting and Processing Marijuana' started by thegiftofbooty, Apr 20, 2014.

  1. So I saw this video on youtube of a tobacco moisture meter, used to determine whether the tobacco was dry enough to smoke or not. It got me thinking about using one of these on freshly harvested cannabis to determine whether its at that perfect point or not. Do any of you have any thoughts/experience regarding using one of these on your harvest? if so what would be the perfect moisture percentage-number-thing? please dont reply saying its a waste of time unless you have experience with one of these.

  2. Ehh, It looks like it could work. Problem is, is what numbers would be your control in knowing when it was still too moist or too dry? I suppose you could take a measurement right at the chop to get a "too wet" reading number, and probe some properly cured bud to get a "proper moisture" number, but thats saying you have properly cured weed to begin with.

It would be nice for an experiment I guess, but I would just stick with a humidity meter because there are base numbers of proper range humidity to go off of for cannabis online already.

I think they are just hygrometers, I have just bought some to attach to some buckets so when I cure the bud I can see if the moisture content gets too high so I can air it out.

That moisture meter that you have linked to is a builders meter for checking moisture in walls when rising damp is suspected. I have one and I don't think it would be any good for checking bud

I will be testing the idea out on my next harvest which is in about 2 weeks. I'll be writing up the results on my blue cheese journal. You can get to it by clicking on the link in my signature

  4. What brand are those and where did you purchase them? Would be nice if they're cheaper than the Caliber IV but equal in accuracy. ☺ Thanks, Pill.

  5. Sweet I found some that display Fahrenheit. I'm going to give them a try. Thanks again.

  6. The moisture meter you are referring to in your link is actually for measuring the moisture content in wood, not tobacco.  An example of a moisture meter for measuring moisture content in tobacco would be something such as this one:

Please let me know whether you think that a tobacco moisture meter would apply to measuring the moisture content in freshly harvested cannabis.  Would the appropriate moisture levels in tobacco be the same or similar to that of cannabis?
    Thanks.

  7. I know this post was from a couple of years ago but I have a device that was designed for cannabis to measure the moisture content of the flower during the curing process. Please let me know if you're interested in chatting about it.
