Cannabis And Its Horrible Effect On The Mind: Does It Make You Dumb?

Discussion in 'Real Life Stories' started by Dr McJiblets, Apr 20, 2014.

  1. Just wanted to share this horrible story about how cannabis is wrecking my mind (like the people on the news say):

As a pre-health major, I am bombarded by exams and way too much information (most of it's just filler, ex. calculus). I also have come down with some pretty bad test anxiety as the outcome of these tests are directly determining my future as well as my wife and kids' futures. One particularly tough subject is second semester general chemistry. My attitude is pretty bad on test days. One day, my wife saw me doing some light studying while toking and said, "You should just get stoned before your next test."

I'm not doing too bad, so I decided, "What the hell?" This material is a nightmare and my professor obviously chose the wrong career path for herself. She's constantly having to take lecture time to correct her mistakes and asking her TAs, "Is this right?" She's also known for writing ridiculously hard tests and testing on things she literally talks about the day before the exam. So yeah, I'm stressed as usual.

So, I have a little toke session before the test and feel myself relax. I get to the testing center, moderately stoned, and begin the long, arduous process of taking this exam. Only this time, I'm taking my time and going through the problems surprisingly mechanically and thinking, 'Oh, this is where I need THIS formula!', etc.

Grade on this ridiculously hard test?

    110.5 (no curve)

Guess this stuff really screws you up, huh?

  2. Yup.  In my experience, cannabis doesn't make you dumb.  Kids make you dumb.

However, I take issue with one thing.  Calculus isn't filler!  Calculus is a class I'd take recreationally!

  3. The most brilliant minds, the most far reaching visionaries, our prophets and heroes... So many have either dabbled, or heavily used cannabis. Carl of course is a fantastic example who stated many of his greatest insights came while using cannabis.

It expands the thought process but in recent years research established that cannabinoids stimulate neurogenesis, protect the brain as antioxidants, etc etc.

Great work, keep it up. We need intelligent responsible proponents of the plant.

  4. try that when you take orgo..let me kno how it goes

  5. Cannabis made me wanna learn more stuff, so i did.

  6.
This fall. I will. Gonna need LOTS of it with next semester's schedule. lol

  7.
    Amen, brother.

  8. Wow, I've never taken a test stoned before maybe I'll give it a try.

Cannabis definitely benefits the mind, my GPA has increased from 2.9 to 3.4 since I started vaporizing daily.

  9. In the second semester of General Chemistry, you should be up to your elbows in reaction rates, thermodynamics and solubility problems.  If you see calculus as merely filler, you're missing something somewhere.  Good luck in organic chemistry and physics.

  10.
I don't need to know the second derivative of a function to do...well, anything, ever. It just seems like I could be using that time for studying subjects that are more pertinent to my career path. Maybe "filler" was a poor term, "unnecessary" is probably more accurate.

And yes, thermodynamics, reaction rates, redox reactions, and for the past two weeks, electrochemistry. I'm really looking forward to Orgo. Thanks!

  11. I smoked before every class I had on the last semester I took. did pretty damn well considering my situation and everything I had going on.

  12. It has no long term affects on the mind. Smoke up.

    Good for you!

  14. it doesn't make you dumb, it shows a dumb person just how truly dumb they are.

  15. Anyone else confused by getting over a 100 on a non-curved test? Or am I alone here..?

  16. After 35 years in the high stress mortgage banking career path, I have learned which mmj strains help me relax and focus, and the ones that help me get a good night's sleep. I thing that people try the wrong strain expecting a different reaction. Or wonder why they get different reactions every time they toke - it is different strains. In Colorado I have the opportunity to try many many different strains and if you are going to toke - learn which work best for you in that situation. Need to focus and crank down the ADD/ADHD? - try Golden Goat. Need to let it all go and relax and sleep - try OG Kush or almost any Indica. Need a wake up boost and a serious pain reliever ? - try AK47 or a 100% Sativa.  Have terrible aches in your legs from standing all day ? - its Afghani. Try the online strain review sites and get educated.  Its fascinating all the different strain effects and options. I grow OG Kush, Afghani, AK47 and Bubblegum because they address my specific issues.

  17.  The only negative side effect I've ever encountered is a tendency to be a little forgetful and spaced out until about noon the next day. I'm primarily a night smoker though. I've never noticed any long-term effects on my cognitive function once I'm completely back to baseline.

  18. Terrible use of sarcasm.

  19.
    What's sarcasm?

  20. what sorta strain were you smoking?
