What Do You Do With Your Containers?

Discussion in 'Marijuana Stash Box' started by isaacsg, Apr 20, 2014.

  1. Hi, My name is Isaac. I made a short survey (only 5 multiple choice questions) to see what people do with their medical containers. I need everyone to be honest, this is a totally anonymous questionnaire. I am looking to see what we can do about containers because there are a few types of containers that certain cities' recycling facilities don't recycle, so that means the bottle you may have thrown in the recycling container might still end up in a landfill. I am doing this survey because cannabis comes from the Earth, it's naturally recycled. Plastics on the other hand are not. Together we can help put these containers to good use by recycling them properly and, hopefully soon, easier.

  2. I don't have access to dispensaries but, why not have a recycling program at the dispensary.  Like bringing beer bottle back to the beer store.  You could possibly clean them at the dispensary and re-use them, instead of having them recycled, melted down and re made into that same bottle.

  3. That is a great idea! What would be a good incentive to get people to do that?

Free joint or G per X amount of returned containers.

  5. I throw all mine away... I literally just threw away probably 200+ of them. I wish I could turn in like 10 and get a free joint haha.

  6. This one club that I used to go to a looong time ago had a program like this. It wasn't really about recycling, but it offered that if you bring back your container when you go back to the same club to get more weed, it would give you a certain percentage off your price. I don't know if they still do that but I thought that was pretty smart.

  7. been thinking about this same exact thing and hate the fact that it cant be recycled....thought about melting them all down and maybe making a rolling tray of sorts...i just really hate knowing i cant recycle these...

  8. My homies' dispensary used give a free gram for like 15-20 returned containers

  9. I think there should be an easier way to slow down the use. Maybe if some dispensaries offer a perk for people who bring their own glass containers? That way the plastic ones won't be the go-to container in the first place. Maybe dispensaries should sell glass containers. I know small mason jars sell for less than 99 cents a piece when bought in bulk. They look nicer and are washable!  :hello:

  10. I bought a case of those off the internet for like $40. I got 225 of those things just lying around. I give them away to friends who may need them after we smoke the weed in it. I just think they are helpful to have around.

There is a dispensary in Santa Rosa that had a pallet for collecting returned containers. I dont know if they give you free stuff but I know they re-use them. It's is sanitary to do unless the person that returned them also collected poop or something in them.

  11. i usually just hold on to them or give them to friends if they need them, i have a bag of them in my closet. some dispensaries do, do a recycling program. it would be nice if they all did tho or like you guys are saying encourage people to bring their own container by throwing them an extra gram or so.

  12. I reuse mine.  I mostly go to the same two dispensaries, and one uses mason jars and the other uses plastic ones.  I just bring them back and reuse them.  The couple of times I've gone elsewhere, I've asked to reuse mine, and they haven't had a problem.

  13. I just use the same one, my trusty old mason jar;)

  14. I'm not sure about all the laws in every state but I'm pretty sure MMJ needs to be in a child proof container. Not sure if they make glass containers that are "child proof". If I lived in an MMJ state I would definitely just keep reusing my old container, a discount for using it on top of saving the earth would be even nicer, though. At a store in Honolulu, if you bring your own bag, you can get 3 fly miles from Hawaiian Airlines or you can get 5 cents off your purchase, which is pretty cool.

  15. Great idea! Hey, you don't even need to buy a mason jar if you eat PBJ sandwiches like me. Just use that strawberry jelly jar. For small amounts of weed you can use a baby food jar.

  16. That's awesome that a lot of people are doing something about it :)
Ultimately we should cut down on the plastic use for MMJ, Especially since the plastics used for the jars are difficult to recycle.

Don't forget to do the survey guys! Thanks :D

  17.
Yeah for sure! something as an incentive. maybe a discount for every time you bring containers and drop them in a re-use box.
From there they can be washed and re-used. This would be a great goal for dispensaries. It'd be great to receive more containers than they give out :)

I don't know about the laws in cali about child-proof containers, does anyone have any info? but I've been to dispensaries that give bags instead of plastic containers. Maybe he was not supposed to?

  18. I used to re-use them, then I started taking off the label and giving them to my dad to store small screws/nails/thumb-tacks. Now I recycle the containers and use the plastic dime bags to keep loose change before I go to a bank or CoinStar.
