Is there a real difference in quality and growth between using the 600W verse 1000W HPS Light? I figure the light due to heat would need to be further away, thus less penetration, is the size of the area is small, would it not be better to go with a 600 and get it closer to the plant?

  2. The more light (lumens) you are providing your plant(s), the faster they will grow. 600W are said to provide more light per watt than 1000W, but obviously the 1000W produce more light overall. It really depends how small your space really is, how much power you want to use, and your options for cooling your space. I am currently vegging my plants under 2 x 1000W MH, and the lights are currently about 18" from the top of the canopy. I do have air conditioning running though, so I don't currently have any heat issues.

  3. Isn't there a saturation level? I mean you could probably broil the thing!

  4. I'm not sure what you mean. My grow is doing great at the moment. :smoking:

Yes, there is a difference. With a good cooling system, you can get a 1000w close enough to the plants to get better penetration. You have to factor in canopy size as well. I may have to back the 1000w off a few more inches but it easily covers a 5 x 5 area where as a 600w will cover about 4 x 4 well. Doesn't sound like much but doing the math you are getting 25 square feet as opposed to 16 square feet, increasing the usable grow area by just over 50%.

I use a 4.5 x 4.5 flower tent and the difference has been quite significant upgrading from 600w to 1000w.

  6. 1000 is stronger than 600. Derp.

  7. Well, we have a 5X10 room set up, only about 5X8 being used for the grow space 7.5 feet ceiling with 4 600Watt HPS lights, they are able to get even coverage and the lights are inches from the top of the plants now.

I assume I would need to raise them up higher with the 1000. If you guys say, do it for larger yields and higher quality then so be it.

The 600's are 2X2 Cofiguration, 2 side by side and then 2 more in front of them. I wanted to focus on more even coverage than just one big light and have a hot spot.

Everything is great now, if there is much more improvement to gain, then I may reconsider.

I don't see any gain in replacing 2 600's with 1 1000, so I would assume replacing each 600 with a 1K would be the ticket but still not sure it is worth it.

    Any opinions are appreciated.

  8. With the four 600 lights you have I feel like you have good coverage for the size of the groom. I wouldn't upgrade unless I had extra cash burning a hole in my pocket. That said, I have a 600 and a 400 and next time I will buy a 1000 that uses both MH and HPS.

  9. Yeah, the lights I have can take both too. 220V Digital Ballast. Awesome setup, just second guessing myself if I should go with the 1000 or the 600.

Not sure it will make much difference given the size, the only thing I was thinking about was the penetration, but if I have to raise the light..... then what's the point.
