Are Metal One Hitters Safe To Smoke Out Of?

  1. Hello. So I am currently using a metal one hitter (bat) to toke in stealth. I am wondering if taking hits off the one hitter leads to any hazardous fumes that may be inhaled in the process of the hit.
\nAlso, is the bowl of a metal one hitter aluminum? Are metal one hitters in combination with bic lighters safe to use? Are bic lighters capable to heat the one hitter to the point where the chemicals and fumes released are a risk?
\nBy metal one hitter, I mean the cigarette looking bats you get with your dugout.

  2. Aluminum will boil at 4478 degrees Fahrenheit. This is when it will transition into the gas stage. I literally just did a test to see how hot bic lighters get about 10 mins ago, I shit you not. Anywho, I wrapped some aluminum foil around a thermometer and held a bic flame directly on the foil. Temp went as high as ~ 545 degrees F and then faltered around that point. So in short, you wont be inhaling vaporized aluminum. But chemistry tells us that some molecules/atoms always have enough activation energy to spontaneously jump from phase to phase without energy input but this is in disregardable amounts for metals. Just dont hold the flame on the bowl, you should be good. Is it coated with something, or is it just exposed aluminum?

I appreciate your detailed, complete answer. And I don't think it is coated. The bowl is just plain metal. On the other hand, is testing on aluminum foil valid as in comparison with a metal one hitter? Aluminum foil is much more thinner than the bowl of a one hitter.

  4. Yes I think the results are still relative. You wont be holding the flame to the aluminum as nearly as long as i did, and boiling point is a physical property. No matter what mass of  aluminum, at those temperatures it wont vaporize the aluminum.  Glass is still the best bet though

  5. It's oils and other contaminants that you worry about when burning metals. As long as you've cleaned it and heated it up enough before using it to burn the oils used in manufacturing processes, you'll be fine.

  6. No metal pipes are made out of aluminum, the same way some bongs are acrylic, not regular plastic. There is no hazard

  7. They wouldn't make unsafe to smoke out of, if it was made for smoking. (Unless you bought it from an unrealiable place for a very cheap price, ex. $1 + free shipping from China). If you worried about chemicals, get some hemp wick. Leaves no butane aftertaste like normal lighters.
